  Let's understand that telling someone the truth and being direct with someone, especially regarding a wrong they've committed, will most likely cause them distress and bring them to respond in anger.  My entire life I was taught and have understood Proverbs 15:1 was a command to never use hurtful, hateful words which stands true. But how does one harmonize Proverbs 15:1 with John 8:42-45?  Jesus certainly did not respond with a soft answer but rather used very grievous words in context to the definitions below. And we're commanded by scripture to reprove, rebuke which certainly causes anger. See 2 Timothy 4:2.
