I have to agree with you. I had several "disturbing" years of experience with the AOG (ASSEMBLIES OF GOD) folks. They are NAR, KINGDOM BUILDERS, and throw in several other major issues including now mostly gnostic.
The GOSPEL given to Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV is clear. We don't add anything else onto this.
Repentance means deeply saddened, crushed, broken, regretful desiring change, unable to rise to high ideals, to mourn, contrition >Oxford English Dictionary page 2495. The Etymology of contrition is:

A CONTRITE heart - Godly sorrow = Repentance is how the Holy Spirit brings us to Jesus and to BELIEVE. For a person to say they repent is nothing more than attrition (I'm sorry for what I did - like the kid said when he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Contrition is Godly true sorrow that breaks us. Thus can only come by the Holy Spirit.

This morning I awoke and had great clarity on the profound DEPRAVITY of teaching a person must repent so that God may forgive them of their sins in order to be saved.
This was under the dispensation of the LAW and continued through the KINGDOM Dispensation which was law (works) plus faith. So was the requirement of Baptism.
In this dispensation of GRACE we are saved by GRACE through FAITH alone and not by WORKS lest any man should boast. EPHESIANS 2:8,9 KJB.
The Gospel as we know is BELIEVE > Jesus DIED on the Cross for our SINS according to the scriptures (key Matthew 26:28 KJB) was buried and rose again on the 3rd day according to the scriptures Corinthians15:1-4 KJB. This is perfectly harmonized with Matthew 26:28 KJB [FOR THIS IS MY BLOOD of the New Testament (covenant-contract-divine promise) FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS.
Now go and thoroughly study and meditate over Genesis chapters 15 and 17... stop there and then ask what happened in Chapter 16 in between the great promise of chapter 15 ... Even though Abraham was a mess, a screw up in so many ways, God continued blessing him and promising him a unilateral SALVATION RIGHTEOUSNESS JUSTIFICATION based entirely on God's promise and had nothing to do with Abraham. Paul makes a HUGE deal of this in Galatians Chapters 3. 4. & 5. (the Book of GRACE). I urge you to deeply study Galatians. We see clearly in Galatians 2:16 and 2:20 that it is the Faith OF Jesus Christ and NOT our feeble faith that saves us and sustains us in our daily growth in sanctification. Only Godly sorrow (true repentance) given by the Holy Spirit to bring us to believe ON Jesus Christ As our Saviour based on 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJB is true Repentance. Any other form makes us like monkeys performing fake copying of the truth. No different than those pathetic babbling Pentecostals blabbering in tongues and fake healings.
