Melchizedek, My Kinsman Redeemer
Hebrews
Chapter 7
1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Make no mistake dear Saint. Melchizedek was a real person who met Abraham. This person was the physical person here on earth as Jesus Christ who has existed for eternity as the Visible Image of God, the fullness of the Godhead Bodily. Colossians 1:15, 2:8 King James Bible.
The description in Hebrews is literal = the Lord Jesus Christ is MELCHIZEDEK ... No mere earthly king “remains a priest forever,” and no mere human is “without father or mother.” Genesis 14 describes a theophany, Jesus Christ came to give Abraham His blessing (Genesis 14:17–19), appearing as the King of Righteousness (Revelation 19:11,16), the King of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), and the Mediator between God and Man (1 Timothy 2:5).
In Psalm 110, a messianic psalm written by David (Matthew 22:43), Melchizedek is presented as a type of Christ. This theme is repeated in the book of Hebrews, where both Melchizedek and Christ are considered kings of righteousness and peace. By citing Melchizedek and his unique priesthood as a type, the writer shows that Christ’s new priesthood is superior to the old levitical order and the priesthood of Aaron (Hebrews 7:1–10).
Melchizedek was actually a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ, or a Christophany. Especially given that Abraham received such a visit later, in Genesis 17—18, when Abraham saw and spoke with the Lord (JEHOVAH) in the form of a man.
Hebrews 6:20 says, “[Jesus] has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” This term order would ordinarily indicate a succession of priests holding the office.
Hebrews 7:3 says that Melchizedek was “without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.” The question is whether the author of Hebrews means this actually or figuratively.
The idea of a pre-incarnate Jesus is not biblical. Pre-Incarnate literally means before existing in a body (flesh). The case could be made that John says in 1 John 4:2
King James Version
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
be (v.)
Old English beon, beom, bion "be, exist, come to be, become, happen,"
See the several other manifestations of Jesus Christ on earth as a man appearing to mankind before he came through the Virgin Birth.
