What about SIN in our Christian lives?

I received the following YouTube Comment:

I'm curious to know what a sin is. We are told by Christ to "sin no more." There must be a clear definition somewhere in the Bible. Can you help me define it?

My Response:

Thank you for your question.

John 8:11

“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

King James Version (KJV)

Romans 3:23

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

King James Version (KJV)

1 John 3:9

“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”

King James Version (KJV)

1 John 1:8

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

King James Version (KJV)

Let’s take a look at this important word in the context of Biblical DOCTRINE which is God’s Word as the final authority as given in the King James Bible.

Sin is spoken of 387 times in the King James Bible.

It is always in the context of violating God’s divine LAW.

The Oxford English Dictionary page 2830 defines SIN as “an act which is regarded as a transgression of the DIVINE LAW of God.

Throughout scripture we see after the FALL in the Garden - the Original SIN of disobeying God that mankind are all born into Sin and that there is NOT ONE Righteous or not even the most seemingly perfect Christian is sinless.

Some FOOL Pharisee Christians will actually tell you that after you are saved you won’t sin.  On the other side of this evil coin are the hyper-grace fools who say that God’s grace covers sin and we shouldn’t worry about it.

But the truth is found in scripture as follows:

We can’t avoid sin and here Jesus Christ gives the Christian a terrible paradox*:  SIN NO MORE and yet in SCRIPTURE we are told WE ALL SIN (even after we’re saved - reference 1 John 1:8 and Romans 7:20 KJB.)

Other Paradoxes in Scripture regarding sin reveal the same.

*Paradox are 2 truths next to each other that appear as contradictions, but after deeper study a deeper understanding of Truth is revealed.

The key word above is LAW.

Paul tells us exactly what is going on in that there are 2 LAWS within the heart of mankind that battle.

And it is here in Romans Chapter 7 in Paul’s terrible dilemma that the truth is revealed.

After Salvation we go through and endure tempting, testing and trials. Again we find that it is the PATIENCE (suffering and ability to endure this) of Jesus Christ that we are in his KINGDOM now spiritually and eventually in the physical during the Millennial Reign.  Read Revelation 1:9 and my studies on understanding the Patience of Jesus Christ.

We Must Understand The Patience of Jesus Christ to Understand His Kingdom (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Romans 7:24 his rhetorical question of who will deliver him (and us Christians) from our wretched condition in a body of death.

Romans 7:25 and Romans 8:1 Provide the answer.

It is walking in the SPIRIT BY FAITH.  But what faith?  Is it our feeble faith? No, God forbid. It is by the FAITH of JESUS CHRIST we live and breathe and function in this fallen world being IN it but certainly NOT OF it.

Read GALATIANS 2:16, 2:20.  A dead person cannot sin.

This is all done by FAITH

As we grow and mature in Christ in our WALK called SANCTIFICATION, we find that those sins which once plagued us are no longer with us. But no matter how perfect we become we will always have SIN dwelling within us and it won't be until we are in our glorified bodies will we be as Christ.

Read Romans Chapter 6:6-23 KJB.

Romans 6

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
