Ezekiel 40–48: A Two-Fold Revelation
Essential Background Study:

In my continued study of Ezekiel’s magnificent Temple vision (chapters 40–48), I have come to see a clear two-fold revelation. I do not present this as superior or infallible, but as a humble attempt to hold together what Scripture reveals in both its spiritual depth and its literal application in our day.
Matthew Poole and John Gill, two of the most respected KJV-era commentators, beautifully unfold the spiritual and figurative fulfillment of this vision.
They rightly point us to the glorious Gospel Church and the ultimate Millennial Kingdom where Christ Himself is the Temple — “Jehovah Shammah” — and the river of life flows freely, bringing healing to the nations. With this I am in full agreement.
At the same time, the Lord has granted our generation increased knowledge (Daniel 12:4). The Temple Institute in Jerusalem is openly using the precise measurements, gates, courts, and architectural details given in Ezekiel 40–48 as their literal blueprint for the coming Third Temple. Their own writings describe Ezekiel’s vision as “an unparalleled architectural blueprint” for the Temple they are actively preparing.
When we talk about the Temple Institute’s conceptual plans, we mean they’re working with the vision described in Ezekiel, but translating it into modern architectural terms. Ezekiel’s chapters 40 through 48 lay out measurements and elements of the temple, but they’re often symbolic or lacking practical details—things like exact heights, materials, or structural engineering needs. The Temple Institute takes these biblical descriptions as a starting point, then fills in the gaps with modern architectural standards, so they can visualize what a functional, buildable structure would look like.
So “conceptual plans” include creating scale models, drafting floor plans, and proposing dimensions that align with Ezekiel’s vision but also meet today’s engineering principles. They’re not construction blueprints ready for permitting; they’re detailed visualizations that help people understand how the ancient vision might translate into a real-world temple. They consider things like the outer court’s width and length, how many entry gates there would be, and how these would fit into the topography of Jerusalem today.
Thus, the vision reveals two realities: the detailed plans are being followed literally today for what will become the Tribulation Temple (soon to be desecrated by the Antichrist), while its ultimate and glorious fulfillment remains spiritual and millennial in the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I humbly offer this two-fold understanding, not to contradict the faithful giants of the past, but to walk in the additional light God has graciously given our generation.
