A sobering reproach to Jack Van Impe and his legacy


As press releases surge these past few days of the passing of this so called "great man of God", "good and faithful servant of God who served God for 70 years" etc. etc., I'm compelled to ask you to take a close look at this man.


Personally, I was never much of a Van Impe follower other than viewing a few of his TV programs with his wife on his Jack Van Impe Ministries International https://www.jvim.com/ . I never cared for the way he came across as another charlatan fleecing people to support his TV station and million dollar lifestyle. Last check his estate is worth over 2.5 million dollars. I will say however that I strongly believe in some of the ideals Jack preached especially the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Body of Christ before the Tribulation. I’m also thankful that Jack raised the awareness of this generation living in the last days.


These issues aside, I’m alarmed that so many Christians speak so highly of this man knowing there are very alarming warning signs out there that need to be exposed. Here’s a brief but serious list:

Jack Van Impe was a friend of and involved with Billy Graham. In the book, “Billy Graham and his friends” by Dr. Burns a powerful 800 page book documented with over 4,000 references exposing Billy Graham as a ravenous wolf, Jack Impe makes the hall of shame list on page 485 in company with reprobates as Billy Graham himself, Robert Schuller, Norman Vincent Peale, 33 degree masons as well as Bill Bright (who endorsed ecumenical document called Evangelicals and Catholics together.. Question: Please watch this videotape of Jack Van Impe and tell me what has gotten into him! He used to be sound in doctrine years ago, but now he praises the Pope as an evangelical Christian, talks as though all Catholics are saved, says he loves the new Catholic Catechism because it is so sound in doctrine. Why has he changed?

Response: Wherever I go, in this country and abroad, I’m repeatedly asked this same question. Jack Van Impe claims to be seen by millions in 25,000 cities and many other countries. Tragically, Jack is without excuse for the misinformation he is presenting to those millions. He claims to have studied Catholicism in detail and to be as well informed on this subject as anyone can be. Yet if he were a paid agent of the Pope, Jack could not do a better job of propagandizing his viewers into Catholicism.

Rexella begins this particular program by enthusiastically saying that Jack is going to give some “shocking and surprising information....You’ve spent a lot of time in preparation for it,” she says to Jack. He replies, “I’ve been collecting articles for over a year. I study between 6 and 8 hours a day. I love to do research work. I finished the new Catholic Catechism...there are 2,850 points and I love much of what I’ve read in there....I just finished 602 pages in the Catholic Encyclopedia, so we know what we’re talking about....” (He never even hints that anything might be wrong.) Jack then says that Paul commands believers to “keep the unity of the Spirit...for there is one Lord, one faith.” The implication is that Catholics and evangelicals preach the same gospel and are united in the true faith. Not so! In A Woman Rides the Beast, book and video, and in past newsletters, we have fully documented Catholicism’s false gospel.

Rexella then says she wants to share with viewers “some of the wonderful sermons Pope John Paul II has been preaching.” The contents of the sermons are not given, but only the titles of some sermons: “Jesus Christ, the way to conversion,” “Only Christ satisfies the human thirst,” “We must preach Christ wherever we live,” “Proclaim Christ, light of all people,” and “Faith is the greatest gift.” Rexella then reports that the Pope “stood in Rome and said, ‘I’m praying that we will have a conversion of this city to Christ.’ ” (The implication is that the Pope means the same conversion to Christ that evangelicals preach, which any ex-Catholic knows is not true.)

Jack then further commends the Pope: “He’s fulfilling what Jesus asked us to do...for Jesus said, in John:12:32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
See All..., ‘If I be lifted up I’ll draw all men unto me.’ ” (Jack doesn’t tell his viewers that the “Christ” the Pope “lifts up” is the wafer he holds over his head and worships at Mass and that Catholicism’s “Christ” is continuously being sacrificed for sin, in contradiction to the biblical teaching that His sacrifice was completed 1,900 years ago at Calvary: “[W]e are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all...[and] after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, [He] sat down on the right hand of God;...there is no more offering for sin” - Heb:10:10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
See All...,12,18). Jack then quotes many salvation verses from the Bible, giving the false impression that this is the message of the Pope and Roman Catholicism.

In the following recording, Jack rightfully condemns the Jesus Christ Superstar movie but plants serious errors in both Bible hermeneutics and leaving out the most important truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

First, when Jack claims the Gospel of Jesus Christ is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 he is correct but when he quotes the scriptures he leaves out the “most important” words of the scripture which is “‘SALVATION THROUGH BELIEF IN;”: He then goes on to mix up Romans chapter 10 as making Salvation a work by confession by your mouth. On my new video you'll see Jack Van Impe and his vivacious wife and co-host, Rexella, gush with fulsome praise for the Pope and for Rome's priests. Van Impe exhorts Catholics to obey their black-robed, white-collar spiritual superiors.

Jack Van Impe (He) has made the false claim that Catholic’s and fundamentalist Christians are in agreement in the basics of doctrine. He continually pleads for Christians to drop their theological “bias” and embrace Catholics as brothers in the faith. Anyone who knows anything about the Catholic catechism knows that it is fundamentally opposed to biblical Christianity.

Since he sees no basic difference between Catholic doctrine and Christianity, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he now seems to be moving toward proclaiming equality between Islam and Christianity.

On his Sept 4 2004 T.V. broadcast, Van Impe told of receiving a letter from the Islamic Supreme Council of America. According to their website, the ISCA is an Islamic group dedicated to working “closely and proactively with non-Muslim individuals and organizations to present Islam as a religion of moderation, tolerance, peace and justice.”

After showing a copy of the letter, signed by Abdul-Wahid, Van Impe says,

”He thanks me because of my love for the Muslim people and that I’m so fair. And he told my Secretary June Hazen, I too am looking with expectancy to the return of the Lord Jesus. Because when Christ returns in the Muslim religion he destroys the anti-christ and that’s what we teach in II Thessalonians 2:8…..They believe that Christ is going to set up a kingdom on earth. It’s for a shorter duration but nevertheless, they do believe it”

What Van Impe doesn’t tell you is that in the Muslim religion the Anti Christ is Jewish. According to Muslim tradition Jesus is actually a Muslim and will destroy not only the Anti Christ but all who refuse to convert to Islam. Maybe that’s why his Islamic friend is so excited about the return of Jesus. I’m also highly doubtful that Abdul Wahid referred to Jesus as “the Lord Jesus” but those were Van Impe’s words.

Van Impe rightly claims that not all Muslims are radical terrorists. He and his wife Rexella cite numerous newspaper articles about the more moderate aspects of Islam. They repeat the false claim that true Islam is peaceful and that only the Wahabi version preaches violence.

He then attempts to support his stance by quoting from the Koran.

”…..I’m going to read from the Koran chapter 9 verses 3 & 6, If an idolater repents and takes to prayer and renders the alms levy, allow them to go their way God is forgiving and merciful. If an idolater seeks asylum, help with you, give him protection so that he may hear God’s word and then convey him to safety. I think you ought to share that you Muslim people with Bin Laden and his crowd because that’s the other side of the story”

After showing more newspaper articles about moderate Islam, Van Impe continues,

”Well my friend who sent me this letter, Wahid, said that there are the two groups (moderate and radical Islam ed.) and there are 73 factions broken off from the two groups but many of them preach love from the Koran chapter 9 verses 4 to 6 as I already read a few moments ago, so do Christians if we’ll only practice our bibles……Thank God for the Muslims who are preaching love.”

He then spends a few minutes castigating Christians for arguing and “fighting” among ourselves.

It is a common tactic of heretics to misquote the bible and take verses out of context. Now Van Impe does the same thing with the Koran. Here’s what the Koran actually says including verse 5, most of which he conveniently left out

Koran Chapter 9 verses 1-6 (Shakir Translation)


1. This is a declaration of immunity by Allah and His Messenger towards those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement.

2. So go about in the land for four months and know that you cannot weaken Allah and that Allah will bring disgrace to the unbelievers

3. And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters; therefore if you repent, it will be better for you, and if you turn back, then know that you will not weaken Allah; and announce painful punishment to those who disbelieve.

4. Except those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement, then they have not failed you in anything and have not backed up any one against you, so fulfill their agreement to the end of their term; surely Allah loves those who are careful (of their duty).

5. So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

6. And if one of the idolaters seek protection from you, grant him protection till he hears the word of Allah, then make him attain his place of safety; this is because they are a people who do not know.


Well, that’s a little different than what Van Impe would have you believe isn’t it. You do understand that when the Koran speaks of idolaters it’s speaking of Christians, Jews, and anyone else who is not Muslim. Notice too that these so called verses Van Impe cited to attest to the love promoted by the Koran when read in context, promote no such thing.

What this chapter says is this. Muslims are allowed to make a treaty or agreement with their enemies when the enemy has an advantage. Once Muslims gain the advantage though, the treaty should be broken and the idolaters (that’s us) should be given a period of 4 months to repent or die. That’s the “love” that Muslims have for us. We have a 4 month window of opportunity to repent from our beliefs and embrace Islam before they kill us.

This is only the latest instance of Van Impe using questionable judgment in relation to his interpretation of scripture. He has a long history of setting dates for the start of the tribulation and was a big proponent of the phony Y2K scare.


Regarding Y2K Van Impe marketed a video called 2000 Time Bomb in which he claimed;


”The dire warnings in this emergency video are gleaned exclusively from secular experts in over 300 reports. The facts: No event in history has connected mankind to one common adversary until now. The millennial bug jeopardizes our way of life in ways never imagined.”
