My Testimony of God's Amazing Grace
My life which in many ways was much like John Newton the hard-drinking sailor who came to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and would later write Amazing Grace .
How many times I’ve sung that song with a full heart of unspeakable gratitude in knowing truly how God miraculously saved me from a lost life destined for hell and the eternal lake of fire, living a wretched life of drunken debauchery to bring me into a fullness and joy unspeakable in Him my risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I believe I was saved when I was a young child of 7 years of age. I prayed in earnest and invited Jesus Christ into my heart.
However, it wasn’t until December 3, 2001 at the age of 46, that I fully committed myself to Jesus Christ having experienced a gut wrenching personal encounter, with Jesus while lying on floor from an alcohol induced illness following years of heavy drinking. That night after my doctor had told me that very day, I was literally killing myself with alcohol. I returned from the doctor’s office and drank a bottle of Jack Daniels. Afterwards, following about 3 cans of beer into a case, I became violently ill and began vomiting.
I stumbled around and fell on the floor and stayed there. I then began crying out to Jesus and told him that I always believed I belonged to him but had never really had a true experience that He was real like the Bible said and that I wanted to completely stop drinking and truly give my life to him. At that moment I knew Jesus Christ was with me. In a deeper sense was in me and I in Him. My heart felt at peace that passes all understanding. For the next 3 days I lay on the floor, watching the sun come up and set. I prayed and prayed between hours of sobbing.
On the afternoon of the third day, I got up and began emptying out my liquor cabinet. That was nearly 20 years ago and by God's grace, I haven’t had a drink since. My life really got more difficult since that day I began walking with the Lord, but it has been a journey of unspeakable joy as I got deeper and deeper into my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to whom be the glory forever and ever, AMEN!
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Believe that it is God only - not your religious works of self righteousness - who by his grace called you, and by that grace saved you. Your faith to believe Jesus is your savior is given to you by God to believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior. This makes you saved. Period!
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV Tells us that we are saved by "belief" in Jesus Christ came died for our sins, and rose again on the third day.
Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV Tells us that we are saved by Grace through faith and not by works.
This is what our Christian forefathers taught and died for. This is the truth that so many modern false teachers call Easy Believism.

I have had the privilege of traveling and living all over the world. I’m a retired naval officer and have done work in both corporate consulting and many years as a teacher. I completed over 6 years on a mission trip in Vietnam where my eyes were truly opened to God’s abundant love for people and his abundant grace and mercy. I just recently retired from my 3rd career as a High School teacher and now spend time with my family, helping raise my young daughter and giving my life to the Lord to serve him by writing and researching deeper into His precious word.
