CASE STUDY: The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: Russell Brand finally finds the verse
1 Corinthians 2:14
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
King James Version (KJV)

“RUSSEL BRAND FINALLY FOUND THE VERSE” (posted April 26, 2026). The clip shows Russell Brand fumbling through his Bible landing on Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV):
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
I’m pleased that Russell is reading the Bible, however, it’s concerning that he's obviously reading a corrupted modern bible translation most likely a form like the NIV.
As detailed in my extensive studies, the preserved Word in the King James and proper spiritual discernment under the Master Jesus Christ, the carnal mind grabs whatever “feels right” from whatever translation is handy. Modern versions corrupt language from syntax, vocabulary and major grammar corruption (examples of the preposition swaps etc). This turns the Word of God into philosophical passages of self-help detached from their prophetic context to Israel and the Mystery of the Church Age.
That is not opinion — it is doctrine.
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV)
The Holy Ghost Himself teaches us, comparing spiritual things with spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:13 KJV). The Scriptures interpret themselves under the teaching ministry of the Master — the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the living Word (John 1:1, 14). No man, no celebrity, no scholar, no “new age” seeker can rightly divide the Word without being taught by Him.

Russell Brand’s application of Isaiah 43:18-19 is classic carnal reasoning: “forget the past… a new thing is coming… renewal… personal growth… cultural reset.”
YES, This can be interpreted and even applied. We are compelled, however, to study this and understand this as a CASE STUDY.
He treats the verse as a self-help mantra for forgetting former accusations, scandals, or “old ways” in a broad, universal, feel-good sense. This is exactly what the carnal mind does — it mixes Scripture to fit human experience, emotion, or agenda. Isaiah 43 is not about your personal reinvention.
It is God speaking prophetically to Israel — promising deliverance from Babylonian captivity, a new exodus, and the restoration of His chosen nation in the latter days. The “new thing” is tied to Israel’s national promises and the Messianic hope. Those who belong to Jesus Christ are Israel.
As the Scriptures declare:
“And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:29 KJV)
True Israel — the Israel of God — consists of those who, like Jacob, have wrestled with God (the pre-incarnate Christ) and prevailed. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel because he strove with God and with men and prevailed (Genesis 32:28).
This is not merely ethnic or national; it is spiritual. Those who belong to the Lord Jesus Christ enter this same intimate, transformative encounter. They come out humbled yet empowered as princes with God.
The Messianic Psalms are vital to our Faith because they reveal Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of these prophetic promises. They show us the suffering Servant, the coming King, the root and offspring of David, and the One who will restore His people.
Without rightly understanding these Messianic prophecies in their context — and how they point directly to the Lord Jesus Christ — we will continue to mishandle scripture apply it carnally.

The “new thing” in Isaiah is not the individual “new creature” of the Church Age (2 Corinthians 5:17) detached from this reality.
To rip it out of its prophetic Messianic context to Israel and apply it carnally is to mishandle the Word of God.
This is where the Mystery given to the Church also becomes essential.
The Mystery revealed to Paul was hidden from the Old Testament prophets, including Isaiah. Isaiah spoke under the prophetic program for Israel. The Church Age operates under the dispensation of the Mystery — yet true Israel are those in Christ.
The Word of God is quick and powerful (Hebrews 4:12). It is Jesus Christ Himself — the Logos made flesh — who must teach us.
The carnal mind cannot receive it.
Bottom line: Russell Brand does not understand Isaiah and its context.
He is reading the Old Testament through the lens of the natural man, without the illumination of the Holy Ghost, without grasping the Messianic prophecies, without knowing that those who belong to Jesus Christ are Israel, and without the Mystery of the Church Age.
Study the King James Bible deeply.
Let the Master Jesus Christ Himself be your Teacher. Let the Holy Ghost lead you into all truth, especially through the Messianic Scriptures that testify of Him and the truth that in Christ we are the true Israel of God.
In the love and truth of our Savior,
The Third Heaven Traveler
