THE Gethsemane
The most painful and distressing event of the Passion of Jesus is the night spent in prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He faced the most intense suffering and anguish that man has ever known.
In a moment so decisive for the Son of God, the only way to overcome that hour was terrible to turn to the Father in prayer. It was not the first time that Jesus prayed, His was always a life of prayer.
Now, however, Jesus was about to enter another phase of his ministry, he was going to wear the clothes of the High Priest. He had to offer Himself on the cross as a ransom for mankind, and conscious of this great responsibility, he retired in the garden where spanse His soul before Him who could understand him and from whom he could receive the necessary strength to fulfill their ministry.
Jesus took with Him in the garden the same disciples who had witnessed the transfiguration, wishing now that they were witnesses of His consecration, His love and His suffering. As he pulled away a little 'from the three, asked them to help Him to pray that she felt oppressed by a tremendous sadness. He was being wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities.
Jesus prayed with such intensity, with all your being, with cries and tears (1). After these moments of profound communion with the Father, now winner, victorious and walked resolutely to the cross.
May each of us, in difficult and decisive moments of his life, knowing how to use the prayer of faith, in order to bring as Christ's victory over all that would hinder the unfolding of the plan of the Lord in our lives.
