Put Ye On The Lord Jesus Christ Romans 13:14 King James Bible

Romans 13:14

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

King James Version (KJV)

Exodus 32:25 KJV - And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)

This work is the joint effort of Andrew Sheets and Jon Lutz commentary from Sharon Sweet has been added below as indicated.

Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ is an imperative sentence, meaning a COMMAND or DIRECTIVE.

After Salvation we enter into that phase of our new life as new creatures in Christ Jesus our Lord. This new life begins the process of WORKING OUT our Salvation with FEAR and Trembling. Philippians 2:12 KJB.*

Note: this does NOT mean we have to perform any works to be saved, for we are saved by GRACE through FAITH alone by believing in our hearts that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJB.

This new life of sanctification is learning through DOCTRINE of God's word (KJB) to live as a SPIRITUAL and not a CARNAL Christian. See studies on Doctrine and Walking After the Spirit.

Doctrine is: Learning The Teaching of the Word of God (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Understanding Walking after The Spirit (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

In this study of Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, this is WORKING or DOING an action which is a mental (SOUL FUNCTION) activity of exercising our FAITH.  Romans 7:25 is our guide example here and when engaging our MIND to BELIEVE, UNDERSTAND what our SPIRIT KNOWS, we reap the benefits of Romans Chapter 8. *

*Our regenerated minds* understand what our regenerated spirit knows.

When we examine the word PUT (verb) in the context of Romans 13:14 it means to PLACE an article of apparel or an Ornament upon the Body. Here in this scripture, we see Paul is making a command that we place as an action Jesus Christ on our body in a figurative sense.

What makes this phrase especially powerful and extremely unique is the use of the second person subject pronoun “YE” following the command PUT.  Normally the word “you” is implied and hardly ever mentioned.  As in all commands for someone to do or take some action, the word you is always used, but not mentioned, but clearly understood.

Here in Romans 13:14, however, Paul specifically states YOU.  This means that each of us have a very DIRECT and CLEAR command that this is exceedingly PERSONAL STRAIGHT TO OUR HEART.

Examples in Scripture using the imperative PUT do not use ye (you).  See Colossians 3:12,  1 Corinthians 15:53 etc.

The most direct relationship in harmonizing Romans 13:14 is found in Ephesians 6:10-17 KJB:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

This is Jesus Christ  The Guard I am thy rereward (guard) Isaiah 58 The Captain of the Host  Joshua 5:13,14 KJB

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

We are declared righteous, and fully accepted by God, not on the basis of any righteousness in us, but only through faith, looking outside ourselves and joining us to a righteousness not of our own doing - Jesus who is our righteousness. How Do We Wear the Helmet of Salvation? https://www.biblestudytools.com/bible-study/topical-studies/how-wear-armor-of-god-helmet-of-salvation-today.html

The Apostle urged all the faithful in Jesus to put on the panoply (a complete set) of armor in Ephesians 6:11. “Put on” (Greek ingressive aorist imperative) signifies the thought of permanence. A Christian’s armor should be worn their whole life and once and for all. You don’t put it on and take it off every now and then. Putting on the spiritual attire enabled the soldier to stand secure in his preparation against the devil’s wiles. Paul’s illustration of a soldier draws vivid mental images of sundry men ladened with packs, ammo, and weaponry silently moving through dense jungle into position for battle. Satan disguises his schemes via the ideas of friends and family members to start disagreements and ignite chaos. Wicked schemes spread through the sinful world system by his demon hosts.

In his Bible commentary, Matthew Henry describes “wiles” as a Greek term for ideas of cleverness, crafty methods, cunning, and deception. It’s also all-inclusive, encompassing every sin, immoral practice, false teaching or religion, and worldly enticement. Greater is God in us than Satan in the world. With the helmet of salvation, believers can meditate on the One who can keep them from stumbling and present them before His glorious presence without fault and with immense joy

Why is clothed so significant in scripture- doctrine,  in essence to the Lord Jesus Christ?

1Samuel 17:5 - And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed H3847 with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.

Psa 132:16 - I will also clothe H3847 her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

See Clothed further down.

If we’re not clothed with Jesus we are spiritually naked.

Who is identified as naked? The Church of Laodicea.

Revelation 3:14-22 KJV - And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Examples of Clothed in scripture

Genesis 3:21

“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”

2 Corinthians 5:3

“If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked

2 Corinthians 5:4

“For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Examples of Nakedness in scripture

https://sarata.com/bible/verses/about/naked.html

Ham (Canaan) saw the nakedness of his father and was cursed to become a servant.

Genesis 9:21-26 KJV - And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.

24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

By comparing scripture with scripture it is abundantly clear that the Genesis 9:22 means that Ham had committed sexual sin with his mother, the act of incest with the wife of Noah.   Look at both Leviticus 20:11 and Deuteronomy 27:20 as examples.

Note: there are some as in the link below “verse by verse ministry” that contend that the Hebrew meaning of the verb SAW  “raah” (nakedness) compared to UNCOVERED “galah” (nakedness) seems obviously different, we need look no further than continue reading further in Leviticus chapter 20 verses 17-20 to confirm. Also, the link below is incorrect in their attempt to bolster their argument in their  assessment of Ham’s brothers covering the naked body of Noah. Again we find in scripture that seeing in the context of view only is not the precursor (evidence for its existence)   of sin.  See as an example:

Lamentations 1:8

Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.

WHY IS THIS A BIG DEAL?

To uncover the nakedness is to stand PROFANE SINFUL COMMITTING A SIN AGAINST YOUR OWN BODY.  See

1 Corinthians 6:18

King James Version

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1 Thessalonians 4:2-5 KJB

We may sit and think FORNICATION is “only” sexual sin of sex outside of marriage, which it is. However, this goes much deeper into spiritual fornication See scripture references applied. Which means doing works in the FLESH to willful sin of the Lust of the Flesh, Pride of Life of 1 John.  (scripture references)

1 John 2:16

In the Old Testament, the King James Version Bible (KJV) has a broader definition of fornication than modern translations. Modern Bible translations do not use the word fornication in the Old Testament. In the KJV, fornication includes the spiritual sense of forsaking God and worshiping the false gods (2 Chronicles 21:11; Ezekiel 16:26, 29).

IF WE ARE NOT WASHED IN THE BLOOD FOR THE REMISSION OF SIN, WE ARE NAKED BEFORE THE LAW.

When Adam and Eve SINNED they SAW THEIR NAKEDNESS and needed to be CLOTHED COVERED.  It was done by the SLAUGHTER of some innocent creature and its skin COVERED THEM.

PERFECT TYPE AND SHADOW OF THE LAMB WHO WAS SLAIN.

John 1:29

John 1:29 KJV: The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Hebrews 9:22

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

King James Version (KJV)

Matthew 26:28

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

King James Version (KJV)

Quote:

Genesis 2:25

Combined, the terms “naked” and “nakedness” are used 104 times in Scripture, a high number for fairly uncommon words, indicating their importance. Depending on the context, the terms can figuratively indicate innocence, defenselessness, vulnerability, helplessness, humiliation, shame, guilt, or judgment.

The LAW stands eternally.   We are guilty of the LAW.

Jesus Christ did not ABOLISH the LAW He FULFILLED*

  •  fulfill (v.)

Old English fullfyllan "fill up" (a room, a ship, etc.), "make full; take the place of (something)," from full (adj.), here perhaps with a sense of "completion"
