Study and apprehend dear Saint. We are “in” this world but we are not “of” it.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary complete text Oxford University Press of 1976 here is the following:

IN the World = (IN) To live by position, situation, within the limits of space, time, condition and circumstances, to be a resident, to partake, engage, join and be in the hands of in the control of and the power of, something to which a person is subjected; physical sense of location,  vested by living, meaning the possession of life, to exist , be found, to make ones abode to dwell, subsist by supplying oneself with food, to pass life in a specified fashion manner of regulation or conduct - moral aspect > (THE WORLD) material universe origin Lord or Ruler of the World also known as the Prince of this World. (Satan) as distinguished from the earth, extra-terrestrial; The earthly state of human existence which is temporal as opposed to eternal, society with the systems of public in the activities, interest, practice and culture of mankind (Note by author: After the Fall of man in the Garden of Eden).

OF the World = (OF) Originally Off same. Off was used through the 11th century and started to fade by the 14th century. Off as in from. (Author example:  living off the land means living from the land). Meaning of of originally off: separation, removal, away from privatization, derivation, origin or source, starting point, spring of action, cause agent, taking, instrument, material and other senses, which involve the notion of taking, coming, arising, or resulting from.  The actual origin of of is difficult, if not impossible to separate from the use of the latin word “de” which means: from or the origin of, to originate from.  To be after class, order, genus, species, kind, manner, In the person of… .> (THE WORLD) Originating from created from: To belong to this temporal world as distinguished from the other world (eternal).  > (THE WORLD) material universe origin Lord or Ruler of the World also known as the Prince of this World. What we can see here is to be in the world is basically living under the moral guidance of God’s law  in this corrupted fallen world that is controlled by Satan and his powers.

But what I found to be most shocking is understanding that to be OF this world actually means to originate from, and be a derivation that has come from its origin, the Prince of this World Satan.  Don’t believe me? Read John 8:42-45
