26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
I have taught for years that the main reason people get tripped up here trying to apply it to saved believers in Jesus is because the book of Hebrews is not written for the Church but for the Jews. This stands as truth. You can read further if you'd like in notes of my previous studies. However, I'm thrilled to learn more from a Brother in Christ. Dear Eric adds another dimension of truth by correctly teaching the CONTEXT of this verse and truly it means the sin of UNBELIEF and failure to accept the atonement of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Eric sums it up.
I pray this study liberty souls who've been misinformed and held captive by false teachers who teach saved people can lose their salvation which is the doctrine of demons.

It is 100% true that no one can lose their salvation. In Hebrews 10:26, a key word is "deliberately." A person who is saved will not deliberately keep on sinning because that would imply he knows what he ought to do, but he doesn't care; however, a saved person hates sin and repents of it when brought under the conviction of the Holy Spirit. A person who willfully continues in sin does so because he wants to, and he feels no conviction of sin because he is not saved.
ReplyDeleteI have usually thought about this question in the context of Hebrews 6:4-6, so thank you for bringing this to light in Hebrews 10 as well. I have written about the impossibility of losing your salvation in the context of Hebrews 6.
Thank you for your insightful comment Brother Keith.
