Calling on Jesus to be Saved is NOT The Gospel of GRACE

1 Corinthians 9:19

“For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.”

King James Version (KJV)

Genesis 4:26

And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Often in my Blogs about studying the Word of God I go over the 3 Essentials of Solid Hermeneutics: 1. Context, 2. Exegesis, 3. Harmonizing scripture with scripture.

I have glossed over the importance of understanding the historical backdrop in the context of scripture. To understand more of this in depth please refer to notes below and this study in the Link:

Understand the Bible - From a Workman Approved unto God by His Grace (thethirdheaventraveler.com).

When Paul writes to the Romans in the Book of Romans we who rightly divide the word (DISPENSATION) understand clearly that Paul is writing to THE CHURCH of this church age - the age of GRACE.

Great confusion ensues however when we come to a major fork in the road at Romans chapter 9 through chapter 11.  We find here Paul stops in his tracks and addresses the JEWISH REMNANT and how they will eventually become Saints during the Tribulation - Time of Jacob’s Trouble also known as Daniel’s 70th week. Daniel 9:25-27. The Jewish remnant will join the other tribulation saints - those non jews who find Jesus as their savior during the Tribulation and will also join us the Church - Body of Christ at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in Revelation 19:7-9 and reign together with the Body of Christ during the Millenial Reign. Revelation 20:6.  Both Judaizers, Hyper-Dispensationalists, Amillenialists, Dominion Theology - Kingdom Builders, New Apostolic Reformation believers, etc hate this.  See studies on exposing these people in these links:

What’s at stake here is The Gospel of GRACE which sadly most people throw the word around but DO NOT UNDERSTAND it.

The Gospel is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 King James Bible:

WE ARE SAVED BY BELIEVE THAT CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, THAT HE WAS BURIED, AND THAT HE ROSE AGAIN THE THIRD DAY ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES.

AMEN!

This is harmonized perfectly with Ephesians 2:8,9:

FOR BY GRACE ARE YE SAVED THROUGH FAITH AND NOT OF YOURSELVES: IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD; NOT OF WORKS, LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST.

AMEN!

We see here that there is no confession, no baptism, no repentance, no NOTHING WE DO other than BELIEVE THE GOSPEL given.

There is a serious curse placed on anyone who does NOT PREACH THE GOSPEL as Jesus gave to Paul.

Read it for yourselves in Galatians 1:8,9 KJV:

Galatians 1:8

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

King James Version (KJV)

Galatians 1:9

“As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”

King James Version (KJV)

:

The Gospel of Grace DOES NOT harmonize with Calling on Jesus to be saved; but it harmonizes perfectly with

Acts 2:20,21 & Joel 2:32

And Romans 10:9, 13.

All of which are addressing DIRECTLY THE JEWISH REMNANT during the Tribulation and how they must be saved.

Why did Joel and Peter, and Paul address these? The answer is found in Romans chapter 9 verses 1 through 33, They rejected their savior and God will remember his promise to call out his remnant.

We see in 1 Corinthians 1:2 Paul again referring to all saved who call on the name of Jesus.  Here again Paul is addressing the major struggle he had with the large majority of Jews who were struggling to grasp how GOD - the one and only true God is in fact Jesus Christ and as a sign they will call on the name of Jesus to show they are saved.

Trinitarians struggle with this as well.

See notes below for study on Romans 9 - 11 and the historical background of 1 Corinthians of Paul addressing mostly a Jewish group who are new Christians.

This same will be taught no doubt by the 144,000 and the two witnesses and declared by the angel to the Jewish Remnant during the Tribulation.

DO we call on the name of Jesus?  Yes absolutely.

DO WE NEED TO CALL ON JESUS TO BE SAVED?

No, calling on Jesus is a sign we are saved.

Understanding the Historical Cultural Backdrop of Corinth Greece

Focus

Significant Jewish Population

Estimates of the population of Corinth range from 100,000 to 600,000. The diversity of peoples who lived in this city is explained by her history. In Paul’s day, Corinth was a very old and yet a very new city. “Signs of habitation date back to the fourth millennium B.C.15 Alexander made Corinth the center of a new Hellenic League as he prepared for war with Persia.16 In 146 B.C., the city was destroyed by Roman soldiers because it led the Greek resistance to Roman rule. All the males of the city were exterminated, and the women and children were sold for slaves.17 The city was rebuilt by Julius Caesar 100 years later, and it eventually became the capital of the province of Achaia. Many of those who settled in Corinth were not Greeks. A large number of Roman soldiers settled there after retiring, having received their freedom and Roman citizenship in addition to grants of land.18 A variety of nationalities settled in Corinth, enticed by the prospects of economic prosperity. A good number of the immigrants were Jews.

Being a relatively recent city with newly acquired wealth brought problems, for there was the absence of an established aristocracy which would have provided a much more stable society. Farrar spoke of Corinth in this way:

… this mongrel and heterogeneous population of Greek adventurers and Roman bourgeois, with a tainting infusion of Phoenicians; this mass of Jews, ex-soldiers, philosophers, merchants, sailors, freedmen, slaves, trades-people, hucksters and agents of every form of vice … without aristocracy, without traditions and without well-established citizens.19

1 Cor. 1:1-2 Paul...and Sosthenes...Unto the church of God which is at Corinth

In about 50 AD, after delivering his famous Mars' hill address, Paul left Athens for Corinth (Acts 18:1). As was his habit, he began preaching in the Jewish synagogue. Paul's rejection by the Corinthian Jews frustrated him and he declared 'from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles' (Acts 18:6). But many of the Corinthians believed. The Lord told Paul he had 'much people in this city,' (Acts 18:10), and so Paul worked for 18 months among them, apparently with much success. One of Paul's converts was Sosthenes. A chief ruler of the synagogue, Sosthenes was beaten for his beliefs and possibly migrated to Ephesus, for he was with Paul seven years later when he wrote this epistle to the Corinthians.

ACTS 13:47 47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

Note in this passage - ’us’ - The ‘us’ refers to the jews. This quote from Torah was for Israel. God was speaking to Israel. God's intention was always to bring salvation to the nations by using Israel, ‘through Israel. Via the Jews. That was Gods ‘intent’.

So that’s why we see Paul saying ....

ROMANS 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek

Therefore it’s very clear why Paul went to synagogues. The Jews knew the Word. But they needed the gospel. Then they could be a light..... to the Gentiles. The Gospel needed a foundation - the foundation the Jews were expert with.

Adding a few more verses I found about Pauls commission from Jesus...

Acts 25:15, 20:  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
