Saints we are to MARK THEM

Proverbs 25:22

“For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.”

King James Version (KJV)

Philippians 3:17

“Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”

King James Version (KJV)

in a nutshell

Concisely, in a few words, as in Here's our proposal—in a nutshell, we want to sell the business to you. This hyperbolic expression alludes to the Roman writer Pliny's description of Homer's Iliad being copied in so tiny a hand that it could fit in a nutshell. For a time it referred to anything compressed, but from the 1500s on it referred mainly to written or spoken words.

Let me clarify in a nutshell: To MARK someone literally means (in context of Philippians 3:17 KJB) To Destine. In simple language you are appointing the person to God's judgment and ultimate wrath. This is by God's divine decree given to you. I urge you to gain background knowledge in Understanding who you are IN CHRIST as His Ambassador. We are to Judge. We are to Rule with Christ. What it means to be a Good Soldier for Christ.

Note:  There is confusion in understanding this scripture without the knowledge of the antecedent and Cataphoric referencing.

Anaphoric, Cataphoric and Exophoric Referencing - Eslbase.com

Example:  I found two glaring examples here:

Who is the "he" and "him" referring to in Deuteronomy 32:10? HE FOUND HIM.

Jesus Christ. We must look at more than the antecedent Pronoun. Otherwise, we would see he as Jacob. Here we find the Cataphoric reference in looking forward to really understand clearly who is HE and HIM are throughout chapter 32 of Deuteronomy.

Another Example:

Chapter 3

1Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.

2Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.

3For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

4Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

5Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

6Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Romans 16:17

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.”

King James Version (KJV)

Romans 6:17

“But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.”

King James Version (KJV)

To Mark  (verb) in the context of Philippians 3:17 and Romans 16:17

Mark

Oxford page 1727 MARK para 6: verb

To place a mark on. To designate as if by placing a mark upon. To destine.  To Destine.

On page 702 Destine: verb: to ordain, appoint. As the act of the diety fate or supernatural power. To appoint or fix beforehand to predetermine by an unalterable decree or ordinance. To be divinely appointed or fated. Fixed to go to a particular destination.

I know in my spirit that each one who you've encountered will get to see you as in a court room as a WITNESS against them when they stand before JESUS CHRIST at the GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT. GWTJ.

The BEASTS don't realize it, but they have been MARKED by you.

Most Christians cannot wrap their minds around this.

2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 1:5, 5:10, 12:5, 20:6 King James Bible

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

1 Corinthians 6:2 - KJV: King

Looking at Oxford Dictionary page 1727 Looking like MARK is a visible sign imposed on a person

Figurative of course in this context

Mark them ... which cause offenses CONTRARY TO THE DOCTRINE which you have learned. This nails my recent study on DOCTRINE.

Additional scriptures to keep in mind

Proverbs 30:5

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”

King James Version (KJV)

Titus 1

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

4To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

6If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Verse 16 of Titus 1:  They deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work abominable.

Strong's for deny him in Titus 1:16 KJV:

Notice that in my hard copy of Strong's Concordance it says Strong's G720,

To contradict, disavow, reject, abnegate.

Ezekiel 9:4

“And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.”

King James Version (KJV)

Philippians 3:17

King James Version

17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

I am fully persuaded that even though we Saints suffer this world

as nomads, travelers, pilgrims getting mocked at every turn, we as Ambassadors of Jesus Christ will be witnesses to those we mark during this age.

It gives me great comfort knowing the horrific suffering of the martyrs before us will also have their day in court GWTJ to see their persecutors stand before Jesus Christ.

  1. What does this mean? I know what “mark and avoid them” means, but beyond that I don’t know what you mean. I am in the minority among my Christian friends who think various “teachers, watchmen, authors etc.” are dangerous and must be avoided, meaning I don’t care if something they say is sound if the rest isn’t. If I see anything concerning, including an unbiblical association with a false teacher, they are marked and I never listen to them again and I encourage others to follow suit. Unfortunately it is becoming much more difficult to find sound teachers. RightNow Media springs to mind - but my current pastor loves it - and promotes it with ever increasing fervor. As a result, I am yet again in the process of finding another church.
