I believe that we have been given a promise as being the church of Philadelphia to be kept from the hour of testing (the tribulation) This is not because we deserve anything by being "good" through works, but because of holding fast to the Word alone, rather than rely on the teaching of the pastors.
"Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." (Rev 3:10)
The word "temptation" refers not only to trial or testing but is in my opinion connected to being given over to Satan while in the body of flesh on earth. Being given over to Satan happens by believing the lie and not receiving the love of the truth ( going under the strong delusion of 2 Thes 2) . For now that being given over is still mostly spiritual in nature, but will manifest physically in its full horror, and there will be no escaping it.
Of course we know that being given over to Satan is not for those who hold fast to the Word of Truth. And so I see Revelation 3:10 as a promise to be kept from it, by our meeting the Lord in the air. And I believe He will be true to this promise.
Also, He said to the apostles:
"Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation." ( Mar 14:38 )
Therefore, by watching and prayer, we can avoid it, else He would not have said that to them.
However all of them were not able to watch with Him, they all fell asleep. This is a physical picture of a spiritual reality, which to me indicates that most will not avoid the tribulation, and some who listen to you will unfortunately also go into it. So that is why I say they must also be prepared for what is coming. They must be encouraged to hold on to the hope of it, but they must be prepared for it when they have to go through it. Because to me the Bible indicates those who avoid it are very very few. (When they do go in, they will remember the warnings and teachings, and then finally get it.)
The so-called "Pella flight" of the early church also shows it to me, they avoided what was to come. When they left. things were already very very bad, but they listened to Christ, watched for the abomination, recognized it, and left and avoided the desolation.

This is the first time I've directly and so clearly, with the citation of Scripture, communicated this to a former friend.
"P" was the one through whom I came in contact with almost all the others in that circle, they were basically his circle of friends.
We first met during our bachelors study in 2004.
Already back then he had said to be a Christian. I remember that back then we had some discussions on the Christian belief and I was a hyper-rational person completely closed to the Lord. But the discussion we had was very much an intellectual dispute, and we both didn't go there anymore.
I remember he had a writing on the wall at his home that his relationship with God is the most important thing to him.
He did have his wedding in an ecumenical church service.
He's always been very centered on not losing in anything worldly above all else, which always had amazed me already back then how this agreed with being a Christian. However, he still seemed to value integrity.
But ever since he started his biotech company, and especially after receiving millions in investor money, his behavior became very arrogant and all focused-on money, and he didn't really care about integrity. It seemed that a lot of this had been sleeping and then came forth, he almost seemed like a new person in a bad way.
So now, after 20 years since we first met, the formerly hyper-rational person, being saved, a newborn Christian, writes this testimony to him.

There's this I can still add.
I remember when I met him some time in 2021 for dinner. That was already after he had started his biotech company and had received millions of investor money. I was unemployed at that time and finalizing the scientific article that had resulted from my work at the university (I had finished all the experiments before my working contract expired). I was explaining how I took great care to describe all the methods in detail so that others could repeat the work. He then said why I would do that and that I should leave out important details so that others could not repeat the work. His argument was that I could keep an advantage like this. I just saw that his whole thinking was completely turned away from sincerity, truthfulness and integrity. It was all about avarice and how to gain an advantage over others to feed it. I told him that this would be completely against the spirit of basic science and I can't do that. He just chuckled and said: "You're a good man". I should have asked him right there how this agrees with him as a Christian, but I didn't because I didn't want to upset him. At that time I wasn't saved yet, and like so many times before, this too just felt wrong but I could not yet grasp it in Biblical terms.
During that time I was unemployed, from June 2020 to June 2022, he tried to help me find a job. But all his job suggestions were connected with exactly those corruptions that had caused me to lose my trust in the biopharmaceutical industry during Covid, which was also at the same time. So this didn't work out. I just realized that we were in such different and incompatible mindsets. His help was no help.
In his view, he saw my situation as pitiful, as he said quote "bitter".
And apparently even until now, he never seems to have been able to accept that I said goodbye.

Brother, the Lord has given you a tremendous opportunity to reprove P in his errant doctrine and life as lukewarm Christian and exhort him to pursue the truth. Of course, with gentle humility as you're most gracious and always practice.
The problem, as you're aware, is him most likely not willing to change from his current lifestyle as he is obviously very comfortable in his blind state OF the cares of this world and the strangle hold in pursuit of filthy lucre.
If the Lord gives you a strong unction to reach out, I would definitely do so. If you have a strong check in your spirit not to reach out, then don't Brother. From my perspective it seems he's just being formally polite but has no real interest in hearing your words.

I'm not in for a petty tit for tat with him.
It is again one of those moments, when my mind is catching up to what my spirit already knew.
The Lord leads me not to answer him anymore and I'm completely at peace with this.
You also hit it spot on with him as a "lukewarm Christian".
When I woke up this morning I read Revelation 3, which describes exactly the situation I faced with P, especially Revelation 3:14-22.
A lukewarm Christian from the church of Laodicea.
The Lord has brought this so clearly before my face and He is teaching me in real life how the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
Brother, you are such a precious gift. I thank the Lord for bringing you into my life and the Lord working through you.
I'm just amazed.
And I feel such peace now with my decision not to answer P, as I see clearly through doctrine.
Oh yes, he is being formally polite but has not the slightest interest to hear my words. It's not just a lack of interest, it is a huge disregard for my words.

We find in Matthew 7:7 that when we cast your pearls before swine, they not only trample them under their feet, they turn on you and rend you. The word rend in the KJB is severe:

LUKE WARM is very serious. God forbid. We must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. We read the terrifying words Jesus states He will spew them out of His Mouth.
Revelation 3:16 KJV: So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
And we read His sobering words in Matthew 7
Matthew 7:23
“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

Exactly the right passages. Matthew 7:6-7 and Matthew 7:23.
I realize now also that this issue with P has been oppressing my soul for all these last 20 years.
I always sensed that something was wrong but could never really deal with it well, which oppressed my soul.
And now with my parting from him and the circle around him at the end of 2023, the message with citation of Scripture I sent him after he contacted me again on my birthday, his response, and things becoming so clear now, and then deciding not to answer anymore, which is not to cast my pearls before swine (Matthew 7:7), this oppression of my soul has fallen away.
It is so relieving and peaceful.
This is another big and profound step in my maturation as a newborn Christian. It's so profound.

A correction:
ReplyDeleteNot to cast your pearls before the swine is found in Matthew 7:6 (and not in Matthew 7:7 as I wrongly quoted once at the end). But this is obvious as the correct quotation of Matthew 7:6 is also there and it's also easily checked in the King James Bible. Cameron Moshfegh
