The King James Bible gets it right where the GENEVA Bible comes up short

Psalms 12:6

“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”

King James Version (KJV)

Essential Background Study Links

There is a serious misunderstanding of the accuracy of the Geneva Bible, written in 1568 because it was written before the 1611 KING JAMES Bible and it was also written from the TEXTUS RECEPTUS as was the King James and also used great amounts from the Tyndale Translation as did the King James.

As described in the study links above King James avoided the Geneva Bible because of numerous "errors" and questionable margin notes and commentary that were slanted toward the PURITAN doctrine that was NOT pure in its translation.

There are 2 serious misunderstandings I want to debunk:

First, there is a false assumption that King James did not want to Geneva Bible translation especially because of its translation of Ephesians 6:12, specifically Ephesians 6:12 " worldly governors" vs the King James' "Rulers of the Darkness of this World" which obviously worldly governors would include Kings.

Second "departure" in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 vs the correct translation of the King James Bible of "falling away".

EPHESIANS 6:12: 2

The King James Bible is superior because in the CONTEXT Paul is speaking of SPIRITS NOT CARNAL positions of authority.

My Brother in Christ Cameron Moshfegh goes into detail on this scripture:

Quote:

I'm also a defender of the King James Bible (KJB) also known as King James Version (KJV), which is the 1769 Standard Text and equivalent to the 1611 Authorized Version, as the final authority of the word of God.

I came to this conclusion both in studying and living out the word of God.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV (King James Version)

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Ephesians 6:12 GNV (Geneva Bible)

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, and against the worldly governors, the princes of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness, which are in the high places."

In Ephesians 6:12 KJV the powers that Paul speaks of are spiritual and not carnal, which is clear from context, from dividing, that is discerning (separating or distinguishing its parts from another based on careful consideration), and from comparing Ephesians 6:12 with Scripture.

The very beginning of Ephesians 6:12 KJV, quote "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood", makes it already clear that the wrestle Paul speaks of is not against carnal powers.

The end of Ephesians 6:12 KJV, quote "against spiritual wickedness in high places.", makes it clear that the wrestle Paul speaks of is against spiritual powers and authority.

When Ephesians 6:12 KJV states quote "against the rulers of the darkness of this world", this perfectly harmonizes with the beginning and end of Ephesians 6:12 KJV, in that it speaks of a wrestle not against carnal powers but against spiritual powers and authority.

But when Ephesians 6:12 GNV states quote: "and against the worldly governors, the princes of the darkness of this world", this diverts it to a wrestle against carnal powers and authority, which contradicts the beginning and end of Ephesians 6:12 GNV.

Furthermore, Ephesians 6:12 GNV contradicts Mark 12:17 GNV, while Ephesians 6:12 KJV perfectly harmonizes with Mark 12:17 KJV.

Mark 12:17 KJV

"And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him."

Mark 12:17 GNV

"Then Jesus answered, and said unto them, Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God, those that are God’s: and they marveled at him."

For context, the Geneva Bible falls into the very trap that the Pharisees and Herodians had set for Jesus in Mark 12:12-17, a trap according to man's wisdom, produced by the carnal mind, devised in enmity towards God, and which Jesus disarmed so that they marveled at Him.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 King James Bible:

2 Thessalonians 2:3

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”

King James Version (KJV)

The difference between the King James and the Geneva is over the translation of the Greek word "APOSTASIA"- G868 aphistemi .

The King James correctly translates this as FALLING AWAY - REMOVAL - whereas the Geneva uses the inferior translation as "DEPARTURE".

I am a PreTribulation Rapture believer and thoroughly believe as it is written in the KJV Bible that 2 Thessalonians 2:2-3 KJV is talking about the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church "Physical Departure" NOT "Spiritual Departure"  before the AntiChrist is revealed.

When you find the time, please study the use and purpose of Articles (know the reason and difference between definite and indefinite articles), Nouns (study especially unspecified nouns and the meaning), and Verbs. (study especially the meaning of a verb and its purpose and the use of the Verbing of a Noun (English Verbing) and examples to further understand.

Close examination of The Unspecified Noun Phrase with the indefinite article "A":  A FALLING AWAY. First, let's ask ourselves why did the King James Translation translate the Greek word apostasia as " falling away " and not the way the Geneva Bible did as "departure".

Of first importance A SPECIFIC FALLING AWAY EVEN DOES NOT HARMONIZE WITH MATTHEW 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

WE SEE HERE INIQUITY IS CORPORATE AND ONGOING PROCESS OF GETTING WORSE AND WORSE.  NOT A SPECIFIC A FALLING AWAY.

CONTEXT:  The Geneva translators - prominent PURITANS namely William Whittingham and Myles Coverdale obviously knew the contextual meaning of apostasia means a REMOVAL from -  separate,  divorce or depart. They chose the word "DEPARTURE" in their minds to convey this, but the true translation even admitted by other translations like the NASB which I will show below is FALLING AWAY in the context of REMOVAL.

The King James translators continually made ACCURACY as their hallmark. There's tremendous background on this in Dr. Grady's book THE FINAL AUTHORITY.

Looking deeper into the grammar we see the article "A" used before the unspecified noun phrase "Falling Away".  When we look at the root word Apostasia we find G868 aphistemi which shockingly is a VERB phrase NOT a noun. As I stated above please understand verbing nouns.  I believe the King James Translators saw this clearly and that's why they wanted to stay with the pure direct translation from Greek.  What this means is this is a specified ACTIVITY which matches perfectly in context:  A REMOVAL... TO GO AWAY. See exhibit.  which apostasia is. .   that is definitely verb phrase falling away.  This is very important.  Without going into deep detail of what an indefinite article is and their use in grammar.

Here's an addition I'd like to add:

CONTEXT & HARMONIZING are always your best friends in solid Bible Hermeneutics.  Paul would not be referring to a spiritual falling away because verse 3 of 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 couldn't harmonize with verses 7 and 8.

Even this corrupted translation the NASB knows the word for apostasia is FALLING AWAY.

2 Thessalonians 2:3

New American Standard Bible

3 No one is to deceive you in any way! For it will not come unless the [a]apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

Footnotes2 Thessalonians 2:3 Or falling away from the faith

Check this out for a good check: I will be using common colloquial language slang for simplification to see which translation stands comparing the NASB translation that agrees with FALLING AWAY apostasy, but adds in leaven of " falling away from faith "

verse 3:  The Tribulation can not come until a physical REMOVAL (falling away) of the Saints (Rapture), and then the AC come on the scene.

harmonized

verse 7 and 8: The Antichrist can't come on the scene until after the RESTRAINER - The Holy Spirit is removed when the Saints are physically REMOVED - Raptured.

2 Thessalonians
Chapter 2

1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Further explanation: There is always the presence of evil - the spirit of the antichrist at work in this age,  HOWEVER, when "WHAT WITHOLDETH" -  the Spirit of Jesus Christ - living within the Saints leaves - because the Saints are REMOVED from this earth - Raptured - then that means His Spirit which is the restraining power that holds back the full WICKED ( G459 - G355 adjective used a NOUN meaning a person = the Antichrist}.

OR DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?

verse 3:  The Tribulation can not come until there is a spiritual departure from truth - apostasy - people don't follow God's word.
Meaning there has never been a spiritual departure from truth by mankind until this day in the future and when this spiritual departure takes place THEN the Antichrist  will come on the scene.

We understand there has always been an ongoing activity by fallen man to stray away from the truth. It is NOT one incident or series before the end of times.

A Spiritual FALLING AWAY or apostasy does not harmonize with verses 7,8:

verse 7,8:  The Antichrist can't come on the scene until after the Saints are Raptured = physically removed.  {Further explanation: There is always the presence of evil - the spirit of the antichrist at work in this age,  HOWEVER, when  the Spirit of Jesus Christ - living within the Saints leaves - because the Saints are REMOVED from this earth - Raptured - then that means His Spirit which is the restraining power that holds back the full WICKED ( G459 - G355 adjective used a NOUN meaning a person = the Antichrist}.
