The functions of our spirit and our soul #discipleship

1 Corinthians 2:13

“Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

King James Version (KJV)

John 16:13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

King James Version (KJV)

1 Corinthians 2:15

“But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”

King James Version (KJV)

Colossians 2:8

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

King James Version (KJV)

How to answer the Scoffer: "Where's your PROOF Christian?" (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Quote: Is spirit the soul or does spirit function as the soul?

I am asking because the Bible says

Ephesians 4:4 KJV
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

Yet we know that God is body, soul and spirit."   End Quote

Response:

I have taken the liberty to cc:  Brother Cameron Moshfegh since I am referencing him and he may shed more light on this:

Okay,

We know Jesus said, I came not to do my WILL but of Him (the Father) who sent me.

See below where I describe the Will is a function of the SOUL.  John 6:38-40 KJB:

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

We know that God is spirit and invisible and no man has seen and Jesus Christ is the VISIBLE IMAGE of God - John 4:24, Colossians 1:15, we know that the Spirit of God who is the Spirit of Christ who is the inner existence of Jesus Christ just like I see you in person but can not see your spirit and soul John 14:9.

Trying to get more into the "what" would lead us down the wrong path. We have to stay with doctrine as follows:

See Brother Cameron's studies on Doctrine, The Tree of Knowledge of  Good and Evil and the Godhead vs Trinity - who is Jesus Christ

The study of Scripture for doctrine and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil by Cameron Moshfegh (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Who is Jesus Christ? Godhead versus Trinity by Cameron Moshfegh (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

We know from scripture such as Hebrews 4:12 and 1 Thessalonians 5:23 that the spirit and the soul are separate and distinct.

Regarding their FUNCTIONS or faculties in my research we see the functions of the spirit are CONSCIENCE - Genesis 1:26,27, 2:5, 3:2, Ps 51:10, John 13:21.  INTUITION - Matthew 26:41, John 11:33, 2 Cor 7:13,  and COMMUNION (Communication) - Luke 1:47, John 4:23, Romans 1:9, 1 Cor 6:17 KJB and many more for all these 3 functions. Note: a Regenerated spirit - saved individual is in communion with the Holy Spirit. A lost person still has a spirit but it is spiritually dead and in communication with ultimately the Devil. Look at Gen 41:8, Is 29:24, Daniel 5:20 KJB etc.

The functions of the soul are: Will, Volition, Emotion, Feelings, Desire, Character, Personality, Mind, etc:

Ps 27:12, 35:25 (heart - soul) 41:2, 84:2, 107:5, 139:14, 2 Samuel 5:8,  139:14, Jeremiah 44:14, Job 6:7, 10:1, Proverbs 24:14,  John 12:27, Matthew 26:38 KJB etc.

Since the FALL man's soul took dominion over the spirit and it is only the WORD of God - Hebrews 4:12, Ephesians 6:17,18 (the sword of The Spirit which is the WORD of God) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in The Spirit... that divides and splits them into their proper place which is the Spirit of God ruling us through our spirit which governs our soul which directs our body's actions.  A carnal Christian is operating in the flesh which is a soulical Christian.

Spirit in Ephesians 4:4 in the King James Bible is capitalized meaning a DIRECT reference to the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Christ who is the Spirit of the Living God who is the Spirit of Truth

 Gen 1:2
...the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of...

John 16:13:

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.”

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Galatians 5:16:

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh
.”

Man's spirit or the spirit of the enemy:

Romans 8:9

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

King James Version (KJV)

 1 Sam 18:10

...that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in...

Great Comparison:

Rom 8:16

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are...

Read the entire Chapter of Romans Carefully to see the distinction.

Now the dilemma comes when finding scriptures such as 2 Samuel 23:2 that use the small case "S" to describe God.  What happens here is when using the internet KJV searches verses using the 1769 hard copy King James Bible.  Please see my study with Brother Cameron Moshfegh on why the 1900 King James Bible is corrupted primarily from the S issues in the spelling.  I believe you've seen my study here on, "Which King James Bible Translation I use."

Internet King James Bible found in some references. It's hit and miss.

Readers Response:

Thanks after reading this (I haven't read links for now, just your response) I would say that God is Spirit, Soul and Body and we are spirit, soul and body and it is good to say that spirit functions as the soul while the spirit itself has another functions than the soul

I would say that God is Spirit, Soul and Body and we are spirit, soul and body and it is good to say that spirit functions as the soul while the spirit itself has another functions than the soul .

My response.

We know of course Jesus Christ is God and we are created in His IMAGE ( Body features ) and after His Likeness (spirit soul and body) .

Wouldn't it be more aligned precisely to say the Spirit functions AS = performs or works through, influences the actions, activity of the SOUL?

The SOUL MAGNIFIES or MANIFESTS the SPIRIT within us.

Luke 1:46

“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,”

King James Version (KJV)

Brother Cameron would you consider adding comment to this?

Cameron Moshfegh's response:

Amen! This stays with doctrine and does not slide into what Romans 1:20-23 warns about.

Romans 1:20-23
"20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."

The wrong path is that the carnal mind, trying to profess wisdom (Romans 1:22), vainly imagines (Romans 1:21) the reverse of "God having created us in His image" and changes the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man (Romans 1:23).
