The REPROBATE in the video claims that we're not to get involved in the hermeneutics but rather read scripture at its face value.   When reading Matthew 24:34, Jesus' prophecy did not happen and is therefore a false prophet.

The young man debating him completely misses the point and never really answers the error and misinterprets Matthew 24:34.

I also believe he's a post millennial believer; i.e, post tribulation rapture but this isn't the main point here. But the give the young man credit for disputing the other man, he at least correctly states that HERMENEUTICS is essential, and we must understand and apply this to the study.

See my studies related to understanding DOCTRINE and Solid Bible Hermeneutics including the understanding of the Literary Interlude aka the parenthetical pause.

Remember:  CONTEXT, EXEGESIS (grammar syntax vocabulary etc.) Harmonize Scripture with Scripture.

The correct interpretation of Matthew 24:34:

This generation refers to the preceding two scriptures in verse 32 and 33 in that the Generation that witnesses - sees - the signs of the end time events - Matthew 24:4-12 (discussed below) coming into view.

Sound Grammar discipline requires the reader to ask WHO are "THEY"?  We first go back in text to see Verse 33 that reads:

The Anaphora also known as the Antecedent of the Pronoun "They" is the essential KEY to the Grammar in understanding the meaning of verse 34 of Matthew Chapter 24.

Anaphora refers to an earlier word or phrase using a pronoun or another word.

Example:

I also need to point out the English pronoun "This" comes from the Greek Strongs G3778 which originates from G3588 which is surprisingly a DEFINITE ARTICLE (the) expressed by the English idiom "this" which is also rooted in G846 (a reflexive "themselves" meaning, THE SAME.  In other words the very ones, the same who come to the time to see the signs and warnings I mentioned will witness the end times.  The disciples asked Jesus in verse 3, WHEN THE END WILL COME?

This generation refers to the preceding two scriptures in verse 32 and 33 in that the Generation that witnesses - sees - the signs of the end time events coming into view. In other words the figurative fig tree's leaves turning green to know the season of summer has arrived, will apply this parable to know that when the events described in Matthew 24: and will know that these things are near even at the door "the things that spoken of  responding to the question of the disciples: when shall these things be what shall be he sign of they coming and of th the end of the world? Matthew 24:3.   Note: Verse 2 was 70 AD and most likely will happen again in the Tribulation at the mid tribulation at Daniel 9:27 KJB.

Note:  A Generation is approximately 70 to 80 years if we look at Psalm 90:10.  The FIG TREE is Israel and I believe as do many other bible scholars that we can measure the generation during the time of Israel's regathering as a Nation in May 1948. For this reason, we know Summer is near. Taking 80 years we would come to the fulfillment of this generation time frame by 2028. I pray this is the time frame, but we can't be dogmatic on 80 years applying to Matthew 24:34 KJB.

Verses 4 through 12 are leading up to the Tribulation these things are the FIG TREE's leaves turning green see verse 32, 33.

  • false messiahs
  • wars and rumors of war
  • nation rising up against nation
  • earthquakes increase
  • famines
  • pandemics
  • man turning on each other
  • hatred
  • betrayal
  • false prophets
  • man's heart was cold
This is the CONTEXT and this harmonizes perfectly with several scriptures of being aware of the signs of the last days. Read Paul's warnings in 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5, 1 and 2 Timothy and Peter and James' warnings and signs.

Note:  Do not fall into the trap of the false teachers especially the Post Millennials and Amillennials who teach these are not the end time signs with words, "we've always had EQs etc..  Be honest and sincerely admit that we're seeing these events happen on a never-before-seen scale.

24:13, 14:  Events in the Tribulation

Matthew 24:15 -22: The Mid Tribulation when the antichrist descretates the temple Daniel 9:26,27 KJB.

Matthew 24;23-29 More events during the tribulation and the 2nd Advent.   Specifically verse 27 is the 2nd Advent and verse 28 is the slaughter of the millions at the Battle of Armageddon Revelation 19, Ezekiel 39.

Note: Matthew 24:28 is NOT the Rapture of Eagles gathered as distorted teaching of GENERATION 2434 and others I have rebuked:

Generation 2434 Double Down (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Matthew 24:30 Is the 2nd Advent - Revelation 19. Note verse 31 is the parenthetical pause explaining the first resurrection of the Jewish Remnant and Tribulation Saints.

Then at verse 32 we catch up to when the generation that shall finall come to see the events leading up to the Tribulation to prepare.

Matthew 24:35-53 Are more warnings of what will happen before the Tribulation and as in verses 40, 41 although a shadow and type of the Rapture these scriptures are still referring to those Tribulation Saints and those who will not be saved. This is in perfect harmony with the 10 virgin parables of  Matthew 25 followed by the parables of the talents, the sheep goat judgment, all events describing who gets spared, saved in the Tribulation and who does NOT.

Note

: Luke 21 is also referring to the Tribulation, but references are made to 70 AD the destruction of Jerusalem and again 70AD just as the abomination that caused desolation by Antiochus of the Macabee rebellion of   BC is another type and shadow of Daniel 9:25-27 KJB.

Who is "He" in Daniel 9:27 King James Bible? (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Additionally, we must examine Matthew 23:36-38 KJB>

36Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Jesus in Matthew 23 was describing the WOES to the Jewish

religious leaders, Pharisees, scribes to the multitude. He then

goes into verse 38 to declare the LORDS DAY 'house is left

desolate' .  This is a future event.  THIS GENERATION in

verse 36 is referring to the DAY of the Lord. See Luke 13:35 -

read the FIG TREE that did NOT bear fruit it was to be cut

down. verses 6-9 KJB. In Luke 13:18-30 KJB. The KINGDOM

Parables are examined which is referring to after the Kingdom

was removed from Israel and all now is referred to the future

TRIBULATION and into the MILLENNIAL KINGDOM.

Revelation 1:9 and the Matthew 13

 Kingdom Parables

 (thethirdheaventraveler.com)

Again, we see the Pronoun used as a definite article in the Greek 'This'.   We now must look at the cataphoric reference of knowing that the ultimate punishment for rejecting the Messiah will be the Jews necessitating the time of Jacob's Trouble, Daniel's 70th week, the Tribulation.  See Daniel 7, and chapter 9:25-27 with Zechariah 13:9, Romans 9:25-27,, Isaiah 10:22, 11:9-11, 50:1, Hosea 1:10,11, etc.

Obviously, we know that the wicked Pharisees and the current Generation were not going to witness the Tribulation to come. Also note that ALL the Prophets used "this wicked generation" when referring to the DAY of the Lord and the Time of Jacob's Trouble.  Example: "burn them up"  Them is the exact same context as Matthew 24:34 - the people that see the signs in other words the ones who will experience these events coming into reality.

Malachi 4:1

“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.”

King James Version (KJV)

Notes:

Here’s a table summarizing the differences between endophora, cataphora, and anaphora:

AspectEndophoraCataphoraAnaphora
DefinitionGeneral term for references within a textEarlier word refers to a later expressionEarlier word refers to using a pronoun or another word
Example“John is our human resources manager. He is highly skilled.”“This is him. John is our human resources manager.”“This is John. He is our human resources manager.”
DirectionCan refer to elements both before and afterRefers to later elements in the discourseRefers to earlier elements in the discourse

Introduction

Cataphora, a stylistic device in linguistics, shapes the flow and coherence of language. Cataphora uses a grammatical substitute, such as a pronoun, which shares the same reference as a subsequent word or phrase.

This article delves into the intricacies of cataphora, exploring its definition, etymology, and usage. Through examples and a comparative analysis with endophora and anaphora, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of this linguistic phenomenon.

Let’s start by defining what cataphora means!
What is Cataphora?

Derived from the Greek words “kata,” meaning “down,” and “pherein,” meaning “to carry,” cataphora involves referring to something that appears later in the discourse. In simpler terms, it is a linguistic device where a pronoun or a word refers to a later word or phrase in a text. This forward-pointing technique serves to build anticipation and create a sense of cohesion in the narrative.

Example:  “Before she revealed the secret, Jane had smiled mysteriously. It had been a smile that hinted at a hidden treasure.”Here, “she” is a cataphoric reference, referring to Jane, which is mentioned later in the sentence.

Cataphora is the opposite of anaphora which involves referring to an earlier word or phrase using a pronoun or another word as in:She ate the cookies. They were made by her grandmother. Here “they” refers to the word “cookies” which is mentioned earlier.

The upcoming section will elucidate the distinction between anaphora and cataphora, both of which fall under the broader category known as endophora.  (Referring to Elements BOTH Before and After).
