Galatians 4:26
“But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.”
King James Version (KJV)
Romans 4:16
“Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,”
Romans 2:28
“For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:”
King James Version (KJV)
2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.
5 And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.
6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.
7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Beth–lehem.
8 And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these?
9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.
10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.
11 And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed. 12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.
13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him.
14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.
15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.
17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.
18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.
19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.
21 And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.
22 Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
Descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh do not know they are descendants of Ephraim or Manasseh. Not many of them went to Judea after the northern kingdom of Israel was conquered by Assyria, and so then became Jews. The great majority of them were deported by Assyria, much further east in Assyria, and so then later lost their tribal existence, became assimilated. Later, after most of the Middle East was converted to Christianity, most of those descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh became Christian too. Later, when most in the Middle East got gradually converted to Islam, over the centuries, most descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh became Muslim too. So they do not know of their tribal membership of the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh. The tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh are consequently considered two of the ten lost tribes of Israel. But those descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh who became Jews do not know either that they are descended from Ephraim or Manasseh. The tribal identity of Jews has been lost, except for the tribe of Levi, whose distinct identity has been preserved for religious reasons. If the Jewish temple in Jerusalem is ever rebuilt, the tribe of Levi will have an important religious role for the temple and for Judaism.
After Moses was forbidden by God to enter into the Promise Land, the mantle was given to Joshua the son of Nun (only he and Caleb of those who left Egypt were allowed to enter because they displayed faith). Joshua was of the Tribe of Ephraim and to the children of the wanderers who he led; he would have been looked upon as the mighty deliverer for he successfully led them into the Promise Land by the mighty hand of God and eradicated almost all their enemies giving them peace and security.
After his passing the land was ruled by a God ordained system of Judges until the people asked for a king to rule over them like the other nations around. Saul was first chosen under the permissive will of God but after his heart turned, God chose and anointed David - a man after His own heart - who successfully replaced Saul and further expanded the reaches, power and devotedness of the kingdom. Now God decreed that the leadership of the kingdom would be given to the seed of David.
Upon David’s death, his son Solomon ruled with some measure of success but with some serious shortcomings. After his death, however, there was discontent with the ‘harsh’ rulership of his son Rehoboam, and the Nation of Israel eventually split into two with the ten Northern tribes breaking away and forming what is known as the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the two tribes of Judah and (most of) Benjamin being called the Southern Kingdom and more popularly - th“In light of this prophetic symbolism, which present day religious group would qualify as having fulfilled Jacob’s prophecy as to who the descendents of Ephraim and Manasseh would be? Which religion on earth uses the fish as their symbol, speaks of a Messenger from YHVH as their Redeemer, and has the sign of the Paleo-Hebrew letter tav, which looks like a cross? The Buddhists? The Moslems? The Hindus? Even the Jews? No! Only Christianity fits this enigmatic criteria. Many Christians are without a doubt the literal descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh. Those who are not, according to the Paul the apostle, once they come to saving faith in Yeshua in some unique sense become the descendants of Abraham (e.g. Gal 3:7, 29). Many of these unsaved descendants of Abraham will recognize Yeshua their Messiah on the day that he returns to Jerusalem (e.g. Zech 12:10).
Which nation on earth is without a doubt still the greatest Christian nation? It is the United States of America. Having an understanding of how Jacob’s prophecy to Ephraim and Manasseh was fulfilled is the first piece of the puzzle in identifying America in Bible prophecy.”

To cut a long story short, the first king and initiator of the Northern Kingdom of Israel was Jeroboam who, as you may have guessed, came from the tribe of Ephraim.
Largely as a result of the above, God in the scripture would refer to the Southern Kingdom as Judah and the Northern as Ephraim. So many of the times you see a reference to Ephraim after the book of First Kings, like in Hosea (a prophet to the Northern Kingdom) it is a reference to the (Northern) Kingdom of Israel.ns of Iran. And some are citizens of other countries. Plenty of them are Arabs. And plenty of them are members of other ethnic groups.

- Joshua 2:1 – "And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there."
- Joshua 2:9-11 – Rahab's confession: "And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land... For the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath." (Her faith is later commended in Hebrews 11:31 and James 2:25.)
- Joshua 2:12-13 – Rahab requests mercy: "Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD... that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death."
- Joshua 2:18 – The scarlet thread covenant: "Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee."
- Joshua 2:21 – Rahab's obedience: "And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window."
- Joshua 6:17 – "And the city shall be accursed... and all that are therein... only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent."
- Joshua 6:22-23 – "But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren..."
- Joshua 6:25 – "And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho."
- Hebrews 11:31 (KJV) – "By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace."
- James 2:25 (KJV) – "Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?"
- Matthew 1:5 (KJV) – Rahab in Jesus' genealogy: "And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth..." (Rahab married Salmon, became mother of Boaz, grandmother of Jesse, ancestor of David and Christ.)
- Scarlet = Blood Redemption: The thread is called "scarlet" (Hebrew shani, meaning crimson, often from crushed worms/insects – see Isaiah 1:18 KJV: "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow"). It foreshadows Christ's blood cleansing sin (1 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 1:5; Hebrews 9:14).
- Direct Parallels:
- Passover Blood (Exodus 12) – Blood on doorposts spared households; scarlet thread spared Rahab's.
- Cleansing Rituals – Scarlet wool/thread used in leprosy cleansing (Leviticus 14:4-6) and red heifer (Numbers 19), pointing to Christ's purifying blood.
- Genesis 38 Connection – Tamar's twins: Midwife tied a scarlet thread on Zerah's hand (Genesis 38:28-30 KJV), but Pharez "broke through" as firstborn. Pharez enters Judah's line leading to David/Christ (Ruth 4:18-22; Matthew 1). This "scarlet thread" on the "wrong" twin symbolizes unexpected grace – like Rahab, an outsider, breaking into the Messianic line.
- This proves spiritual adoption by faith (Romans 4:16 KJV: "the father of us all"; Romans 2:28-29 KJV: true Jew inward; Galatians 4:26 KJV: heavenly Jerusalem as mother).
- Rahab's scarlet cord witnesses Gentile inclusion – just as Ephraim/Manasseh (half-Egyptian) became full tribes, Rahab the harlot became Israelite and ancestor of Christ.
- The Bride (Church of Philadelphia) is ONE in Israel – no division by race or law. False teachers denying this ignore Rahab, Ruth, and the crimson thread of redemption.
