Balaam foresees a star (Numbers 22:1 – 24:25)

Commentary by Matthew Henry: 

The story of the prophet Balaam is perhaps one of the quirkiest in the Old Testament. It begins as the Israelites are encamped on the border of Moab, ready to conquer the land. Balak, the king of Moab, decided that he had to take drastic action to stop this happening.

In desperation, Balak contacted Balaam, a foreign prophet who lived in what is now Iraq. Balak proposed that in exchange for money, Balaam would use his magical powers to curse the Israelites. Balaam told Balak’s messengers that he wanted to sleep on the idea.

However, God spoke to the prophet in the night to warn him not to curse his people, so he decided against the idea. However, he did agree to travel to meet King Balak. While he was on the journey, an angel appeared on the road to block his path. Unlike Balaam, the donkey he was riding was able to see the angel. The animal retreated in fear and then lay down.

Unaware of why the donkey had stopped, Balaam struck the poor beast to try to get it moving again. God then enabled the donkey to speak – to give Balaam a telling-off! Only then was the prophet able to see the angel, and after apologizing  for striking his animal, was allowed to go on his way.

On arriving in Moab, he was met by King Balak, who asked him again to curse the Israelites. But God spoke to Balaam, instructing him to bless them instead. After he did so three times, the Spirit of God inspired Balaam to utter a series of prophecies. One was of a distant figure who would come to save Israel: “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near — a star shall come out of Jacob, and a sceptre shall rise out of Israel.”

From the very beginning of the Church, this was understood as a reference to the future arrival of Christ. In particular, the “star” was understood to refer to the star followed by the Magi on their journey to meet the newborn Christ in Bethlehem."

David in the type, who not now, not quickly, but in process of time, should smite the corners of Moab. (v. 17), and take possession of Mount Seir, and under whom the forces of Israel should do valiantly, v. 18. This was fulfilled when David smote Moab, and measured them with a line, so that the Moabites became David' servants, 2 Sa. 8:2. And at the same time the Edomites likewise were brought into obedience to Israel, v. 14. But,

Our Lord Jesus, the promised Messiah, is chiefly pointed at in the antitype, and of him it is an illustrious prophecy; it was the will of God that notice should thus be given of his coming, a great while before, not only to the people of the Jews, but to other nations, because his gospel and kingdom were to extend themselves so far beyond the borders of the land of Israel. It is here foretold,(1.) That while: "I shall see him, but not now; I do see him in vision, but at a very great distance, through the interposing space of 1500 years at least." Or understand it thus:-Balaam, a wicked man, shall see Christ, but shall not see him nigh, nor see him as Job, who saw him as his Redeemer, and saw him for himself, Job 19:25, 27. When he comes in the clouds every eye shall see him, but many will see him (as the rich man in hell saw Abraham) afar off.
(2.) That he shall come out of Jacob, and Israel, as a star and a sceptre, the former denoting his glory and lustre, and the bright and morning star, the latter his power and authority; it is he that shall have dominion. Perhaps this prophecy of Balaam (one of the children of the east) concerning a star that should arise out of Jacob, as the indication of a sceptre arising in Israel, being preserved by a tradition of that country, gave occasion to the wise men, who were of the east too, upon the sight of an unusual star over the land of Judea, to enquire for him that was born king of the Jews, Mt. 2:2.
(3.) That his kingdom shall be universal, and victorious over all opposition, which was typified by David's victories over Moab and Edom. But the Messiah shall destroy, or, as some read it, shall rule over, all the children of Seth. (v. 17), that is, all the children of men, who descend from Seth, the son of Adam, the descendants of the rest of Adam's sons being cut off by the deluge. Christ shall be king, not only of Jacob and Israel, but of all the world; so that all the children of Seth shall be either governed by his golden sceptre or dashed in pieces by his iron rod. He shall set up a universal rule, authority, and power, of his own, and shall put down all opposing rule, 1 Co. 15:24. He shall unwall all the children of Seth; so some read it. He shall take down all their defences and carnal confidences, so that they shall either admit his government or lie open to his judgments.
(4.) That his Israel shall do valiantly; the subjects of Christ, animated by his might, shall maintain a spiritual was with the powers of darkness, and be more than conquerors. The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits, Dan. 11:32.
III. Here is his prophecy concerning the Amalekites and Kenites, part of whose country, it is probable, he had now in view.1. The Amalekites were now the chief of the nations (v. 20), therefore Agag was spoken of (v. 7) as an eminent prince, and they were the first that engaged Israel when they came out of Egypt; but the time will come when that nation, as great as it looks now, will be totally ruined and rooted out: His latter end shall be that he perish for ever. Here Balaam confirms that doom of Amalek which Moses had read (Ex. 17:14, 16), where God had sworn that he would have perpetual war with Amalek. Note, Those whom God is at war with will certainly perish for ever; for when God judges he will overcome.
2. The Kenites were now the securest of the nations; their situation was such as that nature was their engineer, and had strongly fortified them: "Thou puttest thy nest (like the eagle) in a rock, v. 21. Thou thinkest thyself safe, and yet the Kenites shall be wasted (v. 22) and gradually brought to decay, till they be carried away captive by the Assyrians," which was done at the captivity of the ten tribes. Note, Bodies politic, like natural bodies, though of the strongest constitutions, will gradually decay, and come to ruin at last; even a nest in a rock will be no perpetual security.
IV. Here is a prophecy that looks as far forward as the Greeks and Romans, for theirs is supposed to be meant by the coast of Chittim, v. 24.1. The introduction to this parable; this article of his prophecy is very observable (v. 23): Alas! who shall live when God doeth this? Here he acknowledges all the revolutions of states and kingdoms to be the Lord's doing: God doeth this; whoever are the instruments, he is the supreme director. But he speaks mournfully concerning them, and has a very melancholy prospect of these events: Who shall live? Either,(1.) These events are so distant, and so far off to come, that it is hard to say who shall live till they come; but, whoever shall live to see them, there will be amazing turns. Or,
(2.) They will be so dismal, and make such desolations, that scarcely any will escape or be left alive; who shall live when death rides in triumph? Rev. 6:8. Those that live then will be as brands plucked out of the fire, and will have their lives given them as a prey. God fit us for the worst of times!
2. The prophecy itself is observable. Both Greece and Italy lie much upon the sea, and therefore their armies were sent forth mostly in ships. Now he seems here to foretell,(1.) That the forces of the Grecians should humble and bring down the Assyrians, who were united with the Persians, which was fulfilled when the eastern country was overcome, or overrun rather, by Alexander.
(2.) That theirs and the Roman forces should afflict the Hebrews, or Jews, who were called the children of Eber; this was fulfilled in part when the Grecian empire was oppressive to the Jewish nation, but chiefly when the Roman empire ruined it and put a period to it. But,
(3.) That Chittim, that is, the Roman empire, in which the Grecian was at length swallowed up, should itself perish for ever, when the stone cut out of the mountain without hands shall consume all these kingdoms, and particularly the feet of iron and clay, Dan. 2:34. Thus (says Dr. Lightfoot) Balaam, instead of cursing the church, curses Amalek the first, and Rome the last, enemy of the church. And so let all thy enemies perish, O Lord!

There is no reference to the Star (or shield) of David in the Bible. There are several rabbinical tales as to the origin of the Star of David. These range from the star being the shape of King David’s shield, to being the symbol on King Solomon’s signet (seal) ring, to being an invention of Bar Kokhba, the Jewish leader who led what is known as the Bar Kokhba revolt against the Roman Empire in A.D. 132. Mekubbalim (followers of Kabbala) claim that the symbol has magical powers. There is no explicit historical or archaeological support for any of those claims.

It was customary for the idolaters of all nations to carry images of their gods about them in their journeys, military expeditions, etc.; and these, being very small, were enclosed in little boxes, perhaps some of them in the shape of temples, called tabernacles; or, as we have it, Acts 19:24, shrines. These little gods were the penates and lares among the Romans, and the tselems or talismans among the ancient eastern idolaters. The Hebrew text seems to refer to these when it says, the tabernacle of your Molech, and Chiun, your images, צלמיכם tsalmeycem, your tselems, τους τυπους, the types or simulachres of your gods. See the note on Genesis 31:19. Many of those small portable images are now in my own collection, all of copper or brass; some of them the identical penates of the ancient Romans, and others the offspring of the Hindoo idolatry; they are from an ounce weight to half a pound. Such images as these I suppose the idolatrous Israelites, in imitation of their neighbors, the Moabites, Ammonites, etc., to have carried about with them; and to such the prophet appears to me unquestionably to allude.

I will carry you away beyond Babylon - You have carried your idolatrous images about; and I will carry you into captivity, and see if the gods in whom ye have trusted can deliver you from my hands. Instead of beyond Babylon, Amos, from whom the quotation is made, says, I will carry you beyond Damascus. Where they were carried was into Assyria and Media, see 2 Kings 17:6; : now, this was not only beyond Damascus, but beyond Babylon itself; and, as Stephen knew this to be the fact, he states it here, and thus more precisely fixes the place of their captivity. The Holy Spirit, in his farther revelations, has undoubted right to extend or illustrate those which he had given before. This case frequently occurs when a former prophecy is quoted in later times." There is a great deal of speculation on what the star was. Some suppose it to have been Saturn because of the worship of the Egyptians and Arabs. Its Coptic name may have been Remphan, or a form thereof. But in Hebrew it was apparently Chiun. An excerpt from Gil's Exposition:

"and Chiun is indeed, by Kimchi and Aben Ezra (h), said to be the same with Chevan, which, in the Ishmaelitish and Persian languages, signifies Saturn; and so does Rephan in the Egyptian language: and it is further to be observed, that the Egyptians had a king called Remphis, the same with Apis; and this may be the reason why the Septuagint interpreters, who interpreted for Ptolomy, king of Egypt, put Rephan, which Stephen calls Remphan, instead of Chiun, which they were better acquainted with, since they both signify the same deity, and the same star; and which also was the star of the Israelites, called by them because supposed to have the government of the sabbath day, and therefore fitly called the "star of your god". Mostly intended to be a type or form of their idolatry.

That Stephen called them stiff-necked (proud, not bowing before God) and uncircumcised (not of the true circumcision of the faith of Abraham) in verse 51, countered all that they believed and angered them greatly (vs 54, 57). Their history of turning away from God, fornicating with idols and making treaties with idolatrous nations caught up with them. God destroyed their temple in A.D. 70 just as Christ and Stephen told them He would.

If you examine the so-called ‘Star of David,’ or hexagram, closely, you discover something astonishing. It has six points, forms six equilateral triangles, and in its interior forms a six sided hexagon. Thus, it has been intentionally designed with a 666 message. God specifically warns against this kind of thing in His written word. Christians and Jews must not look to or dabble in the occult, not even for fun and entertainment.

The star was mentioned and condemned by the God of Israel in Amos 5:26 and it was called by Him, the star of your god, Moloch' or otherwise calledChiun'. Reference to Amos 5:26 and the Israelites having it in the wilderness was also made in Acts 7:43. Here it was called the Star of Remphan. All these names refer to the `god' Saturn. The hexagram was brought to the Jewish people by Solomon when he turned to witchcraft and idolatry after his marriage to Pharaoh's daughter in 922B.C. It became known as the Seal of Solomon in Egyptian magic and witchcraft. David had absolutely nothing to do with the hexagram and that star most certainly did not, in any way, represent God's people. Solomon gave himself up to satanic worship and built altars to Ashtoreth and Moloch (Saturn).

The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia declares that the six-pointed star—according to the star-worshipping Rosicrucians—was known to the ancient Egyptians. The religion of the ancient Egyptians is known to have consisted preeminently of sun-worship. Moses sternly warned the Israelites against worshiping the sun, moon, stars, and all the host of heaven.

Deuteronomy 4:19 And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.

Moses' warning was emphatic. The prohibition of making and worshiping any image of that which is in heaven above emphasizes the stars and implies also the other celestial bodies.

The six-pointed star can be traced through the worship of Ashtoreth (also known as Astarte, meaning ‘star’) and Chiun and Remphan (meaning 'star') from the Egyptians before King Solomon's time.

The first biblical mention of an idolatrous star among the Israelites is in the 8th century BC, mentioned in Amos 5 regarding their trek from Egypt to Canaan. God is thinking back and talking them about what had transpired.

Amos 5:25-27 "Did you offer Me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? You also carried Sikkuth [i.e., tabernacle of Moloch, the god to which they sacrificed children] your king and Chiun, [i.e., a pagan deity] your idols, the star of your gods, which you made for yourselves. Therefore I will send you into captivity beyond Damascus," says the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.

It cannot be determined whether this star is the occult six-pointed star we know today as the Star of David; nevertheless, this verse does establish that the worship of pagan gods used a star or stars to symbolize them.

Regarding star worship, the Jewish Encyclopedia says,

This is perhaps the oldest form of idolatry practiced by the ancients. The observation of the stars in the East very early led the people to regard the planets and the fixed stars as gods. The ancient Israelites fell into this kind of idolatry, and they had the image of Siccuth and Chiun, “the star of their gods.” The star of the pagan deity Chiun is generally believed to represent the planet Saturn.

In the book The History and Practice of Magic, Volume 2, the six-pointed star is called the talisman of Saturn. The obverse side has the five pointed star, commonly called the pentagram; and the reverse side has the Seal of Solomon with the hexagram at its center. The hexagram is also known as the "King’s Star" in astrological circles, and was an important astrological symbol in Zoroastrianism. It was also used by the Druids during the highest Sabbath of occultists and witches, now called “Halloween.” The hexagram is also found in Arabian magic and witchcraft through the Middle Ages.

The Shield or Star of David is not mentioned in rabbinic literature at all. Notably, not a single ancient archeological proof exists as yet concerning the use of this symbol in the Holy Land in ancient times, even after King David. It has been noted in two isolated cases in the 3rd century AD: on a Jewish tombstone at Tarentum, in southern Italy, and it was used in the Capernaum synagogue in the same century.

The earliest Jewish literary source which mentions it is the 12th century Eshkol ha-Kofer, written by the Karaite Jewish scholar Judah Hadassi. He writes,

Seven names of angels precede the mezuzah: Michael, Gabriel, etc…. YHWH protect thee! And likewise the sign called “David’s shield” [the Star of David] is placed beside the name of each angel.

The name “Star of David” originated in the 13th century in Kabbalah—the ancient Jewish tradition of mystical interpretation of the Bible—where it is a magic symbol associated with the pentagram. It is very commonly known that the pentagram is directly associated with witchcraft and occultism.

The star symbol continues down through the occult to the Jewish Mayer Amschel Bauer, who, in the 18th century, changed his name to depict the red six-pointed star (or shield) which he had hung on his door in Germany, and thus began the family of the “Red Shield” or Rothschild. Also, several Rothschild descendants have the star of David on their coat of arms. They were a Jewish family, but it is not a symbol of Judaism.

The Rothschilds were instrumental in raising up the Zionist Movement in 1896, in funding its activities, and then forcing the occultist leaders of Israel in 1948 to adopt the hexagram as their national symbol.

The “Star of David” was adopted by the First Zionist Congress (in 1897) as a symbol, and it is seen on the flags of the Zionist Organization and of the State of Israel.

There is no biblical evidence, whether Scriptural or archeological, that the so called ‘Star of David’ is a God-given symbol for the Israelites (or, more specifically, the Jews). The Israelite view of God under Moses, which permitted no images of God, was and still is, opposed to the acceptance of any symbols to represent God, and neither the Bible nor the Talmud condones them.

There is extensive evidence that the ‘Star of David’ originated in very ancient occult practices and continues to occupy a place in those practices today. Sadly, this practice is prevalent within Judaism and Christianity today. It is an interweaving of occult mysticism with the Holy Scriptures.

The so-called ‘Star of David’ is essentially a hexagram, nothing more, nothing less. There is no biblical, archaeological or Jewish evidence that traces this ancient occult symbol to king David of Israel.

Some Orthodox Jewish groups reject the use of the hexagram Shield of David because of its association with magic and the occult. They do not recognize it as a Jewish symbol.

This tremendously powerful Evil Spirit who has been kept in the abyss by God’s powerful archangel, who no doubt was the one and the same who also possessed the Greek ruler Antiochus Epiphanes who desecrated the Jewish Temple in 168 BCE and who will also come out of the abyss and possess the Antichrist in his beast role who will also desecrate the Jewish Temple at the midpoint of the Tribulation.

Babylon, the iconic ancient city, is once again rising from the ashes, just as Bible prophecy predicts they say.

However, making scripture fit one's own agenda instead of allowing scripture to interpret scripture always leads to errors and traps.

What probably saddens me the most is one of my favorite eschatological champions of Premillennialism Dr. Thomas Ice even mangles Babylon in Revelation and perhaps false teachers like Joel Rosenberg gobble this up since it fits their agenda so well.

Dr. Ice gives us an accurate background describing how Babylon was in a sense the fomentation of man’s rebellion against God going back to the post flood BABEL and NIMROD.

However, the wheels fall off with this quote by Dr. Ice


“ Watch for Babylon to become a dominant force in the world religiously, commercially and governmentally for Revelation 17-18 predicts the destruction of that city and, in order to be the city those prophecies require, it must be rebuilt on a grand scale like in the days of Nebuchadnezzar."



This is not correct and is actually a glaring departure from what scripture is actually telling us. It is shocking to me that Dr. Ice would utter such words.

To even classical dispensationalists, such as Schuyler English, who revised the Scofield Reference Bible in 1967, Israel as a State has no prophetic significance during the 'church age' until after the so-called 'rapture'.

An intercalary period of history, after Christ's death and resurrection and the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 has intervened. This is the present age. During this time God has not been dealing with Israel nationally, for they have been blinded concerning God's mercy in Christ... However, God will again deal with Israel as a nation. This will be in Daniel's seventieth week, a seven-year period yet to come.119

Other major issues with LaHaye's work: The HQ of the AC is not Babylon as a nation restored. Isaiah 13 is clear that Babylon has ceased to exist PERMANENTLY. Rome - the revived Roman Empire is supported in scripture NOT a restored Babylon. The Tribulation does NOT begin well after the peace agreement is signed with Israel; The Ezekiel 38 war does not begin in the beginning of the Tribulation; The AC does NOT possess power to raise people from the dead; with the great deception not many overall will turn to Jesus during the Tribulation and LaHaye never really gives us an accurate picture of the BILLIONS that will die. There are numerous other issues that are minor and I haven't read all of their work or studied what they've written. The major point I need to bring up here is Tim LaHaye had a great deal of truth but took great liberty to add what is NOT in scripture.

According to the Association of Hebrew Catholics, Bloomer is a Catholic lay missionary with the Missionary Society of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. The Association of Hebrew Catholics, proudly proclaims on their website that they have received the official endorsement of Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Raymond Burke, and Bishop Carl Mengeling. Bloomer wrote an article to explain the truths in the Jewish religion revealed in the Kabbalah, and further how the revelations in the Kabbalah explain the mystery of the Catholic Eucharist.646 Bloomer explains how the Catholic celebration of the Eucharist is actually derived from the Jewish Kabbalah. In the Middle Ages there were a number of Jewish converts to the Church who had become convinced Christians by studying and practicing the Jewish Mystical Tradition. These Jewish converts wrote a number of books which explored the Kabbalah or Jewish Mystical traditions in the light of Catholic belief. Pope Sixtus IV along with some other Popes approved of this movement and ordered the Kabbalah to be translated into Latin and to be studied by all Divinity students. This was the pre-Lurianic Kabbalah. However with the rise of a more rationalistic generation this field of research was neglected by Catholic scholars. Shekinah is the central concept of this mysticism. Father Elias Friedman in his writings mentions this understanding of Shekinah in regards to the Eucharistic Presence of Jesus in the Tabernacles of the Catholic Church. Just as the Shekinah dwelt in the Temple of Solomon so the Shekinah in the flesh was Yeshuah and now dwells in the tabernacles of the world. Thus the central concept of both Jewish and Catholic mysticism is the Divine Presence (Shekinah). A study of the Jewish Mystical tradition in the light of the Eucharist is, in my opinion, essential in the future development of a Hebrew Catholic spirituality that would enrich the whole Church. Adoration of the Shekinah is the central activity of the Jewish mystics just as Eucharistic Adoration is the central activity of the Catholic mystics.647 The Catholic Encyclopedia reveals that the Jewish liturgy is the source for the Eucharistic liturgy of the Catholic Church.648 Bloomer offers a more detailed explanation. Bloomer explains that the Cabalistic mystical concept of then Shekinah presence of God is the source for the Catholic mystical concept of the presence of God in the Eucharist. One scheme used by Jews to alter church doctrines to align with their own is to get the church to buy into the unbiblical terms used in Jewish tradition. Shekinah is an example of that scheme. The word Shekinah appears nowhere in either the Old or New Testaments. Shekinah is a wholly Jewish concept that was born of their Kabbalah; it is also found in the Jewish Talmud and Targums. John Ramsey, a Catholic Priest, explains the fact that the Eucharist is the Shekinah of Judaism: When God’s people were in the desert, He gave them two clear signs of His presence among them. First, He gave them a VISIBLE sign of His presence - what they called the SHEKINAH. . . . We, the NEW PEOPLE OF GOD, the members of His Body, the Church, also have our SHEKINAH and our MANNA and both are to be found in the EUCHARIST. . . . In the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, as we saw in the chapter on the Eucharist, there are two distinct elements: one of SACRIFICE - Jesus, the Lamb of God, offering Himself to the Father; and the other of a MEAL - Jesus, the Bread of life, feeding us upon His body. Jesus Christ, our Shekinah.649 The Missionary Priests of the Blessed Sacrament describe the Catholic theology of Christ being really and actually present in the Eucharistic host. The Eucharist is not symbolic; Catholic theology is that the Eucharist is the actual body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ, it is the visible manifestation of God, it is Shekinah: The Hebrew word shekinah is used to denote any visible manifestation of God’s presence and glory. . . . He is present in the Eucharist. In the ways previously mentioned, He is present in His power, His authority, and in His Spirit. But in the Eucharist, He is present most fully, complete - Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. The Eucharist is the extension of the Incarnation in space and time. It is the fulfillment of Jesus’ name: Emmanuel, God is with us. What better place is there to begin the practice of the presence of God than in His presence in the Eucharist? When we visit the Blessed Sacrament, we should make an effort to heighten our awareness of Jesus’ Real Presence.650 The Catholic theology is that the Eucharist is God actually present as Shekinah in the form of bread, and is to be worshiped as God. Pope Benedict XVI, when he held the previous title of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger and was formerly the Prefect for the Vatican Office of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was viewed as being the preeminent Catholic theologian of his time. Before becoming Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Ratzinger explained how the attendant worship of the host during the Catholic liturgy is based upon the Eucharist being Shekinah: It is the tent of God, his throne. Here he is among us. His presence (Shekinah) really does now dwell among us - in the humblest parish church no less than in the grandest cathedral. Even though the definitive Temple will only come to be when the world has become the New Jerusalem, still what the Temple in Jerusalem pointed to is here present in a supreme way. The New Jerusalem is anticipated in the humble species of bread. So let no one say, “The Eucharist is for eating, not looking at.” It is not “ordinary bread”, as the most ancient traditions constantly emphasize. Eating it - as we have just said - is a spiritual process, involving the whole man. “Eating” it means worshipping it. Eating it means letting it come into me, so that my “I” is transformed and opens up into the great “we,” so that we become “one” in him (cf. Gal 3:16). Thus adoration is not opposed to Communion, nor is it merely added to it. No, Communion only reaches its true depths when it is supported and surrounded by adoration.651 Jean Danielou, who is a Jesuit priest, explains further the Catholic theological view of the Eucharist being Shekinah: This leads us to another theme akin to that of the covenant, that of the dwelling, the Shekinah. Yahweh had caused His Name to dwell among His own. This is the mystery of the Tabernacle. This Presence abandoned the people of the Old Covenant when the veil of the temple was rent. Henceforth its dwelling-place is the humanity of Christ, in whom the Name has set up its tabernacle. And this dwelling-place is in our midst in the Eucharist. We have already seen the Eucharist as communion, covenant. Now we see it as presence, Shekinah.652 Shekinah was inculcated into the Catholic theology from Judaism.

TRINITY




When Jewish Catholics speak of the Trinity they are not referring to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as revealed in the bible, but rather to the three triads set forth in the Kabbalah. The Kabbalah describes the lower third triad of its heathen god (Ein Sof) as made up of three sefirot: 1) Netzach (Endurance/Victory), 2) Hod (Majesty/Glory), and 3) Yesod (Foundation).661 Bloomer reveals that Netzach and Hod are the right and left legs of Ein Sof, and Yesod is Ein Sof’s phallus. Bloomer explains that the light and power of the sefirot are channeled through the phallic god Yesod to the last Sefirah, which is the Shekinah (a/k/a Malkuth).662 This phallic god is part of the blatantly erotic interpretation of the Jewish god found in the Kabbalah.663 Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis in The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism explains: “The Zohar includes multiple interpretations built around the concept of God’s genitals.”664 The Kabbalah infuses orthodox Judaism with a powerful undercurrent of phallic worship and practice, including sex magic.665 The sex magic is an offshoot of the secret doctrine in Judaism, which is a common doctrine found in secret societies, that the mystic can find redemption through an “heroic” willingness to do evil.666 The secret rabbinic doctrine is that evil can be redeemed by embracing it; there is a spiritual good in doing evil.667 That explains why Jesus said to the Jews: “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.”John 8:44. Moshe Idel, in Hasidism Between Ecstasy and Magic, explains that “the concept of the descent of the Zaddiq [Jewish mystic or saint], which is better known by the Hebrew phrase, Yeridah zorekh Aliyah, namely the descent for the sake of the ascent, the transgression for the sake of repentance. . . . Much attention has been paid to this model because of its essential affinities with Zoharic and Lurianic Kabbalah . . . this model was a very important one in Hasidic thought.”668 That concept is the core belief in the system of “black magic.” The source of this secret doctrine of “black magic” is Babylon.669 The oldest texts for this Babylonian black magic in Judaism are the texts Sifrei h-Iyyun, Sefer ha-Bahair, and the Hikoth Yesirah, which is also known as the Sefer Yetzirah.670 Bloomer explains that the Yesod (Jesod) unites the Shekinah and the Tif’eret. Tif'eret is the offspring of Hokhmah and Binah.671 The Hokmah and Binah are two of the three sefirot of the divine head of the mystical body of the Ein Sof (Kether is the third sefirah). Tif’eret is not only a god himself, but he also represents the heart and torso of the body of the Kabbalah god, Ein Sof.
